It is like saying that Anime is the cause of Japans problems. I play games because I enjoy them and there is nothing better to do.
well a lot of times after watching porn I just look at my limp self and remember why my ex left me ;( jk porn dicks do make me feel less masculine though
It seems more like an issue with Risk/Reward, specifically that dating and "the social scene" are more trouble than they're worth, and there are easier, safer and arguably better outlets out there.

Lol
What are some "easier, safer, and arguably better" outlets to dating and being social? Lol
Porn and video games, apparently.
Porn and video games, apparently.
Easier and safer but not better.
What are some "easier, safer, and arguably better" outlets to dating and being social? Lol
videogames and porn, they never say no, and you can mute the other players when playing multiplayer. That's literally the point, if you have low self-esteem, a negative reaction that might seem minor by someone with a good self-esteem is literally reality crushing for someone who feels like they're worth the same as dirt. So tell me, how are one supposed to get 100% guaranteed and unquestioned help and support when they're so down they're borderlining to burying themselves alive? Therapy doesn't help when the world around them quickly undoes the progress of that.
Easier and safer but not better.
Sometimes easier and safer does make it better. And all these young men causing this "masculinity crisis" apparently agree, otherwise there wouldn't be a masculinity crisis, no?
I don't know what's so bad about this. Video games are better than social interaction. If people wants the "people who are addicted to porn and vidya" to like them better maybe they should step their game up and be worth their time of day
Maybe there wouldn't be a crisis of social isolation and lack of manhood if college/highschool grads actually could move out and live on their own, the economy sucks and Japan has shown long term economic failures and lack of opportunities have lead to men basically giving up, same shit is starting to happen here since nobody actually does anything about providing opportunity.
Who cares to be "interesting" to people who do nothing useful to society but play games 15 hours a day? You might as well be dead, who's gonna know the difference but your internet "friends" that will lose interest in you as soon as they stop playing games and get a life?
Philip Zimbardo does apparently. Hence his complaints over a "masculinity crisis" and the "demise of guys". There is no crisis. Not in the United States anyway. Anybody who actually does go outside can see this for themselves. People are still acting like people: socializing, eating, drinking, fucking, acting stupid, behaving intelligently, whatever. Is social isolation an issue? For some individuals, yes, of course. As a massive epidemic sweeping the nation that threatens to destroy us and our civilization? No. I mean, people are changing with the rise of technology and becoming overly dependent upon it in a lot of cases, and there's generally been a rise in narcissism with the increasing prevalence of social media usage in our society, but those are separate and real issues from this ridiculous idea we're undergoing a "masculinity crisis". The idea that there should even exist "masculinity" in the first place is ridiculous. Or "femininity" for that matter. Let people figure themselves out and what they're comfortable with along their own biological lines and in terms of what their personalities are like. They don't have to be stoic and tough, beautiful and sex-crazed, motherly and obsessed with fashion, etc. if they don't want to be. Let them aspire towards what they want to aspire to. So long as they're not hurting anybody else, it doesn't matter. If they're hurting themselves seriously, or if they're in pain and want help, that's another story. Then it does matter, and they should be given the time of day to see what can be done to help them. Like others here have said, social isolation (truly painful social isolation) is a symptom of a bigger issue. Rather than complaining about it, why not figure out why it is there in the first place? Then you'll uncover what that bigger issue is. If more and more men are becoming more and more socially isolated, which may or may not be the case (I doubt it is at a level to warrant concern), evaluate why this is so. If they're turning traditional values of "masculinity" on their heads and not living up to them, evaluate why this is so. I see no problematic change here. Nothing as serious as Zimbardo is claiming there to be. But this is, again as somebody else already pointed out, the same guy who bungled the Stanford Prison Experiment up; he himself joined his own experiment, made all sorts of generalizations about the role of personality vs. environment... it's received a lot of justified criticism from academics and skeptics alike is what I'm getting at. I'm not saying he's an idiot, he's not, I'm saying he's been wrong before and is wrong here again.

You're getting off on the wrong foot to masculinity if you're waiting for opportunity to pass you by.
i didn't know we had so many experts in psychology here
It's a forum, it's made for discussion. This thread does not have a PhD in Psychology as a requirement to post.
Completely missing the point. These people either dont sleep and will kill themselves or dont work and leech of other people (probably their parents) I dont see how you could justify playing games all day?
How many entirely empty assumptions did you just make? Lets count shall we? Unfounded assumption #1
These people either dont sleep
Unfounded assumption #2
will kill themselves
Unfounded assumption #3
dont work
Unfounded assumption #4
leech of other people (probably their parents)
4 Unfounded assumptions in such a short post? It's like you had to try to be that baselessly offensive.
eh
"When I'm in class, I'll wish I was playing World of Warcraft" Even if I don't find that game appealing, that's completely understandable; class is fucking boring. That's like criticizing a person for checking Snapchat and Instagram instead of paying attention to the boring-ass lecture. But I don't feel the effects of this shit when I hang out with girls I feel perfectly at rest, and I'm pretty sure I play a fuckton of videogames and watch more than 2 hours of porn a week.
i spend most of my freetime between work and classes either playing games or fucking around on the net. if i didn't have both work and school to deal with, though, i'd probably spend less time on the computer and more time exploring the country since i don't have to worry about getting back here to get back to work
Masculinity sucks. I'll continue my quest towards androgyny thanks very much.
