You get bullied, if you stand up for yourself, you get punished and the bully goes off free. It teaches you quickly that you are not to fight back(I broke a kids nose for deciding that the day after my dog was killed it would be funny to leave a ripped up stuffed dog in my locker) but I was suspended for two weeks. Standing up to bullies is not an answer for many kids in THIS society.
I bet this guy didnt do anything stupid to you anymore. So you stood up and it worked. Suspension sure sucks, but you can still stand up.

but muh games
You broke his nose, yeah you deserve a suspension. No one will go "oh you broke bully's nose, you get off free"
Why are you painting yourself as such a victim?
Yeah I did. I'm not arguing that. But he argued that bullied kids should stand up, like that's ALWAYS an answer. Is it? No, as I said, it's not.
I am not painting myself as a victim. I have had shit happen in my life that is relevant to this topic.
If you're only course of action is to say i'm acting like a victim and ignore any of the actual arguments about this topic and how the current form of masculinity has issues(As is my point) that harm people, then what is the point of that?

No, he got his friends to ruin a concert my band threw.
Bullying has nothing to do with masculinity. Girls bully each other as well.
Besides, you only get bullied if you don't know how to stand for yourself.
Good luck standing up for yourself if you don't fit masculine traits. People simply will not take you seriously. It actually has more to do with masculinity than you think, at least when it comes to male bullying any way.
I don't think video games make people shy and socially awkward, I think socially awkward people are just more likely to gravitate towards video games. Sort of like how you see a lot of ugly obsessive gamers, ugly people are treated badly by society so they retreat into solitary hobbies.
What you say is definitely true in many cases but I think isolating yourself from society is still going to decrease your ability to socialize. What I get from the video is that video games and porn is the cause so yes it blames them in that sense. It's kinda like saying excessive consumption of alcohol is bad but that doesn't necessarily mean drinking alcohol once a month is bad.

We seem to disagree with one another, all we can do is agree to disagree.

Were you bullied by that person again? It doesn't matter if you get suspended.
The article is not about socially functioning people like you, why are you getting offended?
right cause anyone who has anything to say about anything is just offended and acting through purely emotional reasons as you insist they must be.

He seems a bit offended that they say videogames and porn is bad. If he's not, my mistake.
Were you bullied by that person again? It doesn't matter if you get suspended.
Yes. I had my concert ruined by his friends. I didn't do anything in return. But then I graduated and moved out to the city

I'm sorry, but your posts betray you.
We seem to disagree with one another, all we can do is agree to disagree.
I think it harms people. You think it doesn't.
Ignoring all the anecdotes and evidence of people harmed about it is the only way we can "just agree to disagree".

But how does a girl stand up to bullying than?
The article is not about socially functioning people like you, why are you getting offended?
I'm by no means socially functioning. I have all those things and I'm assumed to be "normal" I'm as fucked up as anybody and have my own problems to deal with. I'm not a "masculine" guy in my own eyes by any means.
A lack of "masculinity" is just more bullshit for people to talk about.

Pretty sure there is just as much evidence about the oposite.
I'm sorry, but your posts betray you.
I was saying he wasn't emotional. I'm minorly emotional about this as it reminds me of just how many people justified the behavior of people who were threatening and hostile in the lives of myself and my friends. People always found reasons to say it was okay, just like you have here.
I disagree. Yes, I'm going to have some emotional attachment to that, but that doesn't betray the logic I'm using here to say that yes, it does harm people.
But how does a girl stand up to bullying than?
It's not really the same, male bullying involves a lot more aggression and is general done by the physically strongest to the physically weakest, which can be due to height and frame. This isn't really how female bullying works.
Generally people don't blame female victims for not standing up for themselves either.

Dude but you have friends and you are not a shut in. You don't consider yourself masculine, but you are sure socially functioning. The article is about people absolutely fucked, no friends and no activities.

I have seen girls fight and I was scared.
Yeah female bullying is more indirect. But it still requires the same psychological traits to stand up. Basically stop giving a fuck or counterattack until it stops. Only the means differ, but I say that you can stand up without masculine traits.
You can punch that muscular gym rat in the face. Even if you are really thin. What is he gonna do? He is gonna punch you too. So what? Will you die? No. You will stand up and go on your way with a blue eye or blood from nose. But next time this guy won't bully you or will be more cautios. No matter how he wants to dominate, he can't do it the same way anymore because you stood up. This is of course not universal, maybe it won't be enough. But generally if you break the pattern they got used to it's going to change.

It does. You're basing the assumption that masculinity is toxic and bad on your own experiences.

If a skinny guy punches a muscular gym rat in the face he'll probably get beaten to a pulp, which then only emphasises how weak the kid actually is which would probably make the bullying worse, and probably end up with some serious fucking injuries on top of it.
Point is you can't blame the shuttins for hiding away from a society that treats them like dirt. The problem is with society, not them, regardless if whether you think society can be changed or not.

The problem is we aren't encouraging people to improve. Most issues can be fixed if you're willing to work on them. Hiding is the easy and often the only way they know. Instead of trying to eradicate masculinity, which won't do anything for bullying, we should encourage people to improve themselves.
It does. You're basing the assumption that masculinity is toxic and bad on your own experiences.
No I'm basing it off of all the experiences of people who don't have the luxury of being accepted at an early period in their development when it's pretty critical they do.
Telling me, or those people, that it's nothing but THEIR fault that they were always treated like dirt is purely fucked up.

It wasn't their fault, but its their choice whether to move on later in life or keep being a victim.
keep being a victim.
Victim blaming is always fun, lads!

Improve what? Not everyone wants to spend hours in the gym just to be able to have a reasonable social experience and not get constantly walked all over.
The problem isn't with the video games, the problem is with the toxic over the top expectations placed on men.

Well he is from Russia, they have a pretty fucked up masculinity culture over there.

Are you serious? You don't even need to be a gym rat. Students have tons of free time, an hour in the gym each day will do a lot of good for a person.
