when you switch characters can you decide to only watch what they are doing if you want or do you have to start controlling them? also what happens if you run into one of them outside of a mission? will it be like gta4 "hey trevor, cmon lets go bowling!" or "hey franklin, want to head to the strip club?"
I hope the car handling's similar to GTA IV. The video didn't show enough to be sure, but I loved driving in GTA IV.
Looks a little more arcadey to me in those fast lane switching scenes..
Looks a little more arcadey to me in those fast lane switching scenes..
yup. what a let down.
Minimap not round 0/10 game ruined forever
yup. what a let down.
Fuck that, it looks like I can actually do any fucking racing mission now.
With the three-person fast-switching in the open world, this is going to be great. Instead of losing my wanted level when the cops are being annoying assholes, I'll just switch to somebody else!
Fuck that, it looks like I can actually do any fucking racing mission now.
Look, for games with shit car handling but good racing, try Saints Row the Third. We like our GTA IV cars.

Actually, I found those cars quite nice.
Besides, I don't even want to do racing. I just know that since this is a GTA game, it's going to show up and be forced somewhere in the plotline.
The fact we can go wreck diving will be awesome.
Yeah. The swimming part was fun in GTA SA, but it lacked stuff to do. The only thing you really needed swimming for was one mission and maybe a few collectibles.
The fact we can go wreck diving will be awesome.
I also remember reading something that said you can find treasure while diving.
That... that multiplayer reveal at the end.. my god..
IMO the switching from character thing is cool and everything but it seems like it would get really annoying because of that 3 second pause to switch to a new character.
The sort of stutter that it does.
I mean I love it and all but you know.
Also fuck this game for coming out right when school starts. I wanted to do well this year in school.
The switch is instant as many journalists have stated in their gameplay preview articles. The only time you experience is a delay is during freeroam where the characters are seperated.

um its called breaks, when you approach a corner use those.
Speak for yourself, I hated the car handling in GTA IV.
you'll hate driving in real life then.

saints row has the worst car handling ive ever played with. i'd rather walk.
um its called breaks, when you approach a corner use those. the cops have the same handling as you (and drive slow cos their ai isnt that great) so no escaping the police is not imposible, youre just bad.

You can't compare gta4's driving with real life, that comparison just doesn't work :v:
I'm sorry I don't give a fuck about realism in games, especially in a game like GTA where we'll be using hand held mini-guns and casually flying jet fighters.
i dont give a shit about realism, i care about fun. arcade handling isnt fun cos its simplified to the point its pratically driving for you.
That 5-10 minute long video will surely ruin your 20-50 hour long experience.
Who plays a GTA game for such a small amount of time?
The player switching made me shit a brick I thought it was kind of a "hey select your character at the beginning and you stick with them." Oh my god that made me shit a brick times 2million.
i dont give a shit about realism, i care about fun. arcade handling isnt fun cos its simplified to the point its pratically driving for you.
The realistic handling in GTA IV was five fucking thousand times better than the arcade handlings in San Andreas or Saints Row though.
Arcadey =/= fun

ey dude
here's a thing called
~preferences~
Looks like it might be a little too heavily scripted.
I mean, every time you switch characters will it really show a cutscene every time? That seems completely unfeasible.
Sounds to me like you'll only be able to switch characters during missions of sorts.

I'm pretty sure it was already confirmed that you can switch during freeroaming.

Also the GTA IV handling was fucking glorious.

ok. did you have any to add?
i dont like arcade driving cos there is no thrill or danger to driving fast. you can avoid hazards on a whim and corner like its nothing. this means there is essentially no divide between careful driving and reckless driving, taking any fun away from crusing and speeding.
[editline]9th July 2013[/editline]
Again, speak for yourself, I didn't enjoy the handling in GTA IV at all, the only cars that didn't bore me to tears were the high end cars like the Turismo and that's because it didn't feel like driving a twenty ton boulder on wheels.
who knew that shitty cars drove bad!!!! holy shit what a discovery
actually thats dumb because it was worse in gta sa. shitty cars took forever to accelerate and had awful top speeds.
Have to agree, if the Car Handling is arcadey, it's going to be a big letdown for me. GTA IV ruined open world games for me with it's car handling physics.
For example, I hated, absolutely despised, the car handling in Sleeping Dogs. It was absurd how terrible that game was to play. Saint's Row is better, but still inferior to GTA IV.
ok. did you have any to add?

yeah man my preference is that arcade driving is good
Have you ever actually played a arcade style racing game? Reckless driving will have you constantly crashing into shit.
You're an idiot, just because it isn't a high end car doesn't mean it has to drive like shit.
um yes it does. shitty old cars weigh more and have weaker engines than top tier sports cars? they also have better tires, better aerodynamics and better suspension.
So asking a honest question instead of screaming HYPE HYPE HYPE gets rated dumb with no answer.
Holy shit facepunch is retarded sometimes.
Well, probably because we know as much as you do about GTA V. None of us have played it.
But it makes me think of San Andreas. You should try it, much more different from GTA IV.
yeah man my preference is that arcade driving is good
nice but what did you add by telling me people have perfecenes?
God the game looks amazing, kinda sucks that it is not coming out for next gen. I can easily see me playing this for months and the fact that I can't play it on the PS4 or Xbox one is a real bummer.
The car handling reminds me a lot of need for speed
nice but what did you add by telling me people have perfecenes?
i added that arcade driving isn't better than 'realistic' driving and vice versa
thats kinda what preferences mean
Dat fuckin' bike riding man, "Tour De france featuring The Police." Can't wait.
