no, the anti smoking lobby hasn't tried to do that at all. they've made it so that cigarette companies and makers can't lie about the effects of their products. They aren't trying to ban cigarettes as a whole and AFAIK, never have. They've always been about consumer protection and advocacy something that if you cared at all about the freedom to imbibe whatever you want, is something you should be happy to have. But no, here you are lambasting them as liars and frauds over nothing but your own imagined failures.
Cigarette companies (or any other company) shouldn't be allowed to lie or mislead consumers. If that's what the lobbies actually stood for, I'd be fine with that. The lobby has gone way too far though in many ways and actively attempts to demonize smokers and limit their rights. Another example would be the FDA's attempt (prompted by the anti-smoking lobby) to ban the online sale of premium cigars. Or their attempt to force all online cigar retailers to raise their prices to at least $10 per cigar (ridiculously high for most premium cigars, especially if buying in bulk).
frackings p bad source: i took an environmental science college course
Depends on what aspects. You should know that in some instances it's used to obtain drinking water?
Wasn't Chernobyl something along the lines of "Hey, what would happen if we were to turn the reactor to max power and take the control rods ALL the way out?"
Yes, Chernobyl was the result of pure soviet stupidity. For starters, many incompetent people held jobs there due to corruption. and also the plant had tons of corners cut out, including some safety things (hence why the disaster occurred) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster My main problem with fracking is its nature and the secrets behind it. we dont only pump water and sand, we pump a bunch of chemicals too. We only know a few of these chemicals (and they are harmful to the environment), and the rest are kept pretty much secret. So heres the issue between fracking and nuclear power. Nuclear power holds risks, but we have a LOT of control over it. We also know how it works pretty well. Fracking also holds risks (contamination of water supply), however, we do not have the same control over it. The chemicals can easily leak out from the fracking area and contaminate the water supply. And then, do not forget that we don't know what a bunch of the chemicals being used are.
