Diamonds are actually unstable lattices and therefore slowly degenerate.
[sp]Although it takes thousands of year before they actually do lose their entire body structure.[/sp]
Minecraftfags will be pissed
Impossible. Technically speaking, they kind of are, but De Beers has a monopoly on the diamond market, and stockpiles them to create artificial inflation and price fixing. They also created the "A Wedding ring should cost a month's income.
Though this would be interesting how the monopoly is affected by this discovery.
I thought De Beers only had a monopoly due to an exclusivity agreement they had with South Africa (largest diamond producer in the world), plus a few others I think.
Oh wait, I just looked it up, and their exclusivity includes Russia.
There are plenty of diamonds on this planet. It's just suppliers restrict the pricing to it to unnecessary heights. If the price were equal to its real supply worth, almost anyone could buy them for cheap.
And they should because of how fucking useful they can be.
Really, the only 'rare' diamonds are the Pink Diamonds, which come only from ONE mining shaft in the whole world -- and there's only like, 1 percent of finding one among other diamonds in the rubble.
sneaky fucking russians
Wait, wasn't there a story a few days ago about Russia buying some huge ice-breaking drill thing, or something along the lines of the biggest ice-breaking drill in the world or something? Those crafty buggers :v:
I bet they're gonna make it out of diamond aswell.
We should make automobiles run on diamonds. RUN ON DIAMONDS.
This'll be just enough for the cars and walls we need for testing!
God help us when someone sends 250 miles per hour into diamond made of brick wall.

fuck
The USSR had an economic collapse while sitting on top of the largest diamond deposit known to man, and they KNEW IT.
I find this both amusing and sad.

Run on diamonds? But that would hurt!

Giving your serfs and workers diamonds and have a diamond market flourish in a Communist Paradise is pretty ironic.
Russia to win!

Less supply, higher prices.
I always imagined being some sort of diamond worker / crafter and making a ring out of diamond with shit I take from the work site and proposing to some one with it.
They wouldn't be worth as much though.
We can thank groups like De Beers for that, it wasn't long ago they ran a campaign talking about how artificial diamonds weren't as good as natural diamonds, because they didn't have the flaws that natural diamonds did (And the flaws made them unique, etc.)
