Rated dumb, not for the OP, but for congress.
Seriously, why would they need to cut NASA funding? Even if NASA is being wasteful, they could have transferred some cash from the wasteful military to NASA.

They don't even have to touch the military, just cancelling Exxon's free money would add another 25% to NASA's budget.
Never money for space or education, always money for corporate welfare.
Which is sad seeing how monumental things space travel has been. I can't imagine a single person that saw the moon landing that did not feel proud about it. One of my wishes would be to see a launch, and i have seen 2 shuttle landings on the tv, In the middle of the night and still felt proud, Especially when the first Swedish astronaut came home
When the budget for the aircon or the soldiers in Iraq is higher then the budget for Space Exploration and Development, Then you got your priorities wrong
The thing is with space travel or even going into space, you literally are throwing money and resources away and not expecting a financial return. I politics it's generally quite hard to say "We're going to mars even though we don't expect more than a 10% return on the several trillion dollars in the budget". It looks really bad. For weapons research however, the excuse is that it's used to protect valueable land assets and earth resources (and if you were a total nut you would cut directly to it and say to protect your share of the world's oil supplies but anyways...)
Then again I say we see what happens if we give Lockheed a budget cut. They would not survive if they just decided to not renew a contract with the government so they would naturally have no choice but to shut up and take the smaller budget.
Why can't Carl Sagan be here to give tear-inducingly inspiring speeches about science
The Senate wants to slash the budget for SpaceX
Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nopity nope.
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, NO. FUCK ALL OF YOU GODDAMN OLD MEN WHO RUN THE WORLD GOD FUCKING SHIT DICKING NIPPLES
*Bangs head on the desk until death.*
Our government is just sooo FUCKING STUPID!
This is making me extremely sad. I wished to live to see another moon landing, or perhaps even a manned mission to Mars. But seeing all of these budget cuts... :smith:

...am I missing something? The numbers for commercial crew development seem the same. Do you mean that they are putting more money into the Lockheed program? I don't see much slashing.

Reallocation of funds.
just sad that the united states is just funding pointless shit just paranoid that another 9/11 is gonna happen
De-funding NASA is necessary. We need that money to start more wars with rogue dictators, or else we won't be able to police the world and tell everyone what to do.

That's not really the issue here. The issue is that the commercial space initiative, which has made incredible achievements for a fraction of the usual cost, is being de-funded to pour more money into a Lockheed porkfest that will probably never fly.
Be optimistic!
Once everything US isn't involved in the middle east anymore I bet there will a lot of money that can be used by NASA. Just check this graph. Wars cost a lot of money.
I say we hand NASA over to Norway/Sweden, they're the best explorers in the universe, they probably already explored Mars but forgot about it, just like with North America.
There's probably a god damn viking colony on the other side of the moon.
Your post made me agree with you and laugh at the same time, it's so true.
I'd love to see the military budget cut and more spending allocated to NASA. But I seriously do not want Humanity to "colonize" other worlds. It would cause nothing but bloodshed and strife. I mean, we can't even control ourselves on our own planet.

The trick is that you don't send everyone up there.
I think NASA should begin considering the possibility of pitching some projects to the Department of Defense, given that they have budget to burn and considering they won't ever get a penny from the WASPs up high.
