Crytek: 'The notion of single-player has to go away'

I prefer Singleplayer over Multiplayer because I prefer to move at my own pace and not be forced out of my comfort zone and also because the AI focuses solely on playing the game NOT insulting you or other players.
Also AI doesn't use cheap ass tactics like grenade spam or bunny hopping like players do.
Seriously I rather play alongside or against bots rather than actual people any day unless they're people I know.
So in other words, FUCK YOU CRYTEK!
Hey.
Hey Crytek.
Hey.
Fuck off and stop doing this shit to the gameindustry plox

They get increasingly hilarious as the difficulty rises
Dude thats a fantastic feature. I gotta find a video of that.
B-B-But I like story-driven games...
Why is everyone attacking this idiot company? Ignore them.

Because they're digging themselves a grave. They're turning against their once-loyal fanbase, infact they did that at Crysis 2.
I don't think SP should go away, but I do think co-op should be more common.
I fucking love co-op; what's to hate about it?
As far as I can tell, Yerli seems to be one of the only people saying these things. Except for maybe some features from SimCity, this is the only think I've heard on this issue.
Well. The reason why Crysis 1 was really good was SinglePlayer
And MP has always been shit since. So I don't know what's their point, they're so irrelevant in my opinion.
And I know how it's been like, I was a huge crysis 1 fan and still am, I was in the front of the modding and servers at the time, It was small community, but so much great guys and modders, it was so cool.
They haven't made anything in MP they can speak gold about, they're full of shit. Look at Crysis 2 MP, it's a BS call of duty midless spam shooting copycat clone, it has no credibility at all. Never bought the game, never played it, tried the demo for 15 mins and that was it. It was a call of duty with superhuman features, all of them felt gimmick
I strongly disagree with their stupid dreams. Gamers will play what they want to play, there is no such thing as one company saying what should be the market like. That sounds dictatorial.
So, lovely and deserved: Fuck you Crytek.
I actually really enjoyed Crysis 1, the sequels sucked though. The continuation of the story was completely nonexistent, and they traded an interesting stealth/jungle aspect that I liked, for a generic FPS.

I understand where he's coming from. I think he's suggesting that games shouldn't really have 100% closed off singleplayer, like The Elder Scrolls or Metro 2033, but instead should have a bit of online. Could be as simple as Sleeping Dogs' leaderboard system that lets you compare stats during gameplay, or as complex as having drop-in co-op while you're playing like the newer RE titles.

Also, don't worry you whiny babies, you'll be able to turn that crap off easily.

Most of how that is actually used though is nothing but cheap gimmicks, and I really see no benefit from something like this to the game. What can be achieved by connecting socially within a single player game?
It adds nothing really, and just detracts from the immersion in my opinion.
-snip, everyone rating this agree didn't read the article very well-

You could always turn that shit off, no problem. I for one like bragging about how many dudes I've shot in the balls, or allow my friend to join my game and shoot people in the balls with me.
I used to respect and love this company, what happened?
I think the problem is that he's suggesting that the entire industry head in an always-online direction, which is absurd. immersive singleplayer games have just as much importance in gaming as social gaming stuff
Yeaaaah, that makes sense too. I am all for more online features in SP games because I really am more of a social gamer guy, as I get really lonely when I play a singleplayer game unless it's really immersive. Only games I have been able to play recently without getting that lonely gut feeling have been Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3.
Crysis 1 SP was pretty good tbh. Played the Crysis 2 MP demo and quitted after 15 minutes since it was a CoD clone.
Adding an online component to a SP game can add value or make it a crappy game (i'm looking at you Dead Space 3).
Would you precummers please read the article please, please?
always-online singleplayer is so fucking retarded
i really hate social gaming, i play games like i read novels; as a solitary experience
nothing would kill immersion and storyline (things that crytek has long forgotten about) more than dying and seeing a whole bunch of dumbass comments
this is worrying to me, because it appears that watch_dogs, one of the games i'm more excited about for this year, is going in this direction as well
more importantly,
Sure, if the technology forces you to play a traditional single-player game online, that doesn’t make sense but if it’s offering actual benefits to be online then you want to be part of it.
it turns out that destructoid article is making a whole big mess out of nothing
How much do you want to bet this is EA's doing? Sometimes this crap is imposed on them from higher up in the company and the only thing the public faces of the studio can do is try and tell their fans with a straight face that they're going to be screwed and to deal with it.
From a programming perspective, making your engine single-player almost always bites you in the ass.
I can understand the idea of 'online-singleplayer' though, I think they mean it more like having automatic patching and DLC available -- a lot like what Steam does.

It's probably just him saying it because it's his opinion.

people attribute the most random shit to EA
Honestly ever since I turned like 18ish I became a massive introvert with games. Singleplayer and in mulitiplayer I don't talk to anyone. I set my name as "TheMostGenericName" and mind my business (Most of the time, TF2 I just play and enjoy myself)
I really prefer focusing on the gameplay and keeping to myself in games. I LOVE coop, but, you just can't beat being the lone hero in a SP game :v:.
Of course, all games need some small form of online play if you can get it, but, some you can't... all multiplayer focus is just retarded most of the time. This is why games like UT99 are so loved, bot matches, and what not, are very well sturdy. Also, Assassins creed, Dead space, TES, etc, that feeling of being the lone hero and seeing a games story being told etc, rather than "lol just another fucking guy shooting people".

Then don't use those features, but just because you don't like them doesn't mean others will.

crysis 3 is actually pretty good and takes some of the level design from 1 and mixes it with the much better gunplay of 2, you should try it
Fuck no.
I love single player games, although what I would want is:
1. Pure SP games. Make the SP as great as possible with good future DLCs etc.
2. Pure MP games with great content, game play and great future DLCs that are actually very, very worth it.
this is an outrage
all of the benefits online brings to SP are worthless if you can't get similar enjoyment out of it offline

Yes, EA is also responsible for smallpox, polio, and cancer.
