I really would just love to sit down and talk to Gabe for like an hour and have a beer or something, play a game with him, he just seems like the coolest guy ever.

First off he is not directly rich in money, but rather in worth of his property. That means the money he owns is not sitting somewhere, it's in Valve, working.
That's the right kind of richness as technically the value is created by stuff working, by the company existing, not like diamonds and all that crap.
Secondly, Gabe is that kind of a human who is probably working all the time or enjoying life without boasting about it and when asked he replies with "Well I have some money, yeaah, and I'm happy about that but I'd be more happy if we could talk about knifes or our newest sudies about sales strategies"
Someone who honours his money and therefor his work by not parading around.

So if an average sandwich costs... Let's say, $2.50, he could have sold off Valve at any point and bought about 6,000,000 sandwiches.
