Sure, but if it let you draw directly onto your document it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than a Cintiq monitor.
Dont you Fucking dare compare this toy to a cintiq in terms of artistic technicality. The iPad can only have one pressure sensitive level. The stylus is either pressed or not. No preasure sensitivity, any real digital artist would know this is a gimmick and never use it proffessionally. The new cintiques go up to 2024 levels of pressure sensivity. You use actual drawing products like photoshop or coral painter or anything else on your computer. Plus the angle detection, which is a huge help in drawing digitally, where the cintiq determines the angle of your pen and the lines you draw will be affected by it, allowing for even more control. With the ipad and cintiq its pretty much msPaint compared to Photoshop - iPad < Cintiq
I am printing off this article for some argument tomorrow. Some dumbass I know says for his graduation present he wants a iPad. He says it will get him through essays and college work. I doubt that... He also is trying to convince my friend that he should buy alienware and he denied everything when I said their customer support sucks. shows what kind of person he is. FOLLOWS THE HYPE. If I were to get an iPad it would be for entertainment if anything. I went on a trip to Austria with some guys I know and after we got finished on the slopes we went to our room and played Risk all night on his iPad.

iPad is a giant iPod

Cintiq is also more expensive than an ipad and also is a drawing tablet, not an entire system. Also cintiq is very delayed. You start dragging but the line follows, not appears right under.
arrrrrgh I'm so mad that people use electronics that I don't like
Class A post here, everyone pack up. Sanius definitely knows what he's talking about.
Cintiq is also more expensive than an ipad and also is a drawing tablet, not an entire system. Also cintiq is very delayed. You start dragging but the line follows, not appears right under.
There isn't a delay with the cintiq I own, and I haven't heard of any delay with the hundreds of cintiqs at my school. Granted they are very expensive, but the quality and precision of the both the pen and screen make up for it, compared to any other tablet/pc I've seen and used. If you want a tablet pc/slate for actual art, stay the fuck away from the iPad, at least go for the HP touchsmart tm2t, or the modbook.
Jeez, get a grip. Who says MS Paint drawings can't be art, hmmm?
Sure it can be art, but why the fuck would a professional use msPaint, other than just a gimmicky hey look I can draw art in the sand. Even art in the sand is worth more since it being a traditional medium.
Sure it can be art, but why the fuck would a professional use msPaint, other than just a gimmicky hey look I can draw art in the sand. Even art in the sand is worth more since it being a traditional medium.
uh do you even know how art works?
uh do you even know how art works?
Why do you ask?
Why do you ask?
you can create anything in mspaint. it's no different than any other program
you can create anything in mspaint. it's no different than any other program
It's the time it takes, it's not efficient. I know you can even create the Mona Lisa in mspaint down to its almost exact detail, but that doesn't bring it close to the amount of control you get with Photoshop and Coral Painter. Because whatever you do in Paint, can be done in either PS or CP in half the time. It's efficiency is what makes it cost more, but worth the price. Which is one of the reasons why a professional studio wouldn't really accept an ms Paint artist to do their concept art, it's on most of their work application requirements when in the business of 2d digital art. Either knowledge of Photoshop or Coral Painter or both, they never ask if you have ms Paint experience, it's not needed/efficient in the digital world. Same reason they wouldn't hire some douche with an iPad thinking he's on par with cintiq users into their workforce. So yes art can be created with the iPad sure, but it's no where near professional standards at all, while you already have other tablets and tablet pc's that are at least somewhat near professional standards for the same price.
You can't do real work either on a netbook seriously. I had to use one when my laptop was broken, it's frustrating because everything is slow (and most operating systems aren't optimized for them). While I agree an iPad is more of an entertainment device, Keynote is really fast compared to powerpoint on my shitty netbook
Install linux.
One of the managers at my place has somehow gotten it into his head that giving iPads to all the field sales staff is a good idea. I still don't quite get WHY they need them...
My school district is considering buying an iPad for every student at our high school. That's about 1800 iPads. Big waste if you ask me.
My school district is considering buying an iPad for every student at our high school. That's about 1800 iPads. Big waste if you ask me.
That's no different than buying every student a LaserDisk player or BetaMax. The iPad is a passing fad which serves no real purpose. Your school should be ashamed.
They're fun to draw stuff on, and read through stuff.
So is paper but it doesn't cost $900.
Install linux.
Already done.
you can create anything in mspaint. it's no different than any other program
....Did you seriously just try that argument?

There are "professional" artists who make art out of their own shit and body hair. 3.) Art being in a "traditional medium" is meaningless. Some of the best fucking art in the world was made with non-traditional mediums. You sound like an aspie who is in the middle of his first year at art college. EDIT: Oh, you go to the Academy of Art. That explains a lot.

It shouldn't matter where you draw it on...but if people are going to make a big deal out of it, you won't get the same level of detail on an iPad. Its like trying to draw with a mouse instead of a tablet.
Art works on the iPad, what are you guys arguing about?
Dont you Fucking dare compare this toy to a cintiq in terms of artistic technicality.
serious artiste here guys
I was making fun of the attitude toward ipads being expressed in this thread. probably should have clarified that
Is every sixth post of yours a backpedal or what
Is every sixth post of yours a backpedal or what
I was stating what should have been pretty obvious sorry
1.) Who the fuck said "professionals" were going to be using the iPad as a drawing tablet? 2.) EDIT: Oh, you go to the Academy of Art. That explains a lot.
The reason I mention that professional artists (and by that I mean people in the industry of concept art, visual development, animation, etc.), is because they are the ones who generally know and understand what is a gimmick and what is an actual efficient tool to getting digital art done. And I myself am a digital artist mainly, I'm not trying to bring down the worth of digital art, I'm merely saying in the case of drawing something in the sand is worth more than doing something on an iPad as an exaggerated mark towards the iPad. And who the fuck cares what uni I go to, looking up background info on me is not the way you should be trying to counter my argument, it's just sleazy. [editline]19th May 2011[/editline]
Art works on the iPad, what are you guys arguing about?
I'm not saying that doing great art is impossible on the iPad, with practice art can be made on anything. But I'm sayin why spend money on an iPad when there are mediums out there digitally, that do a much, much better job.
I have angry birds on my ipod FOR FREE WMAHAHAAHAHHaha [editline]19th May 2011[/editline] Anyways, the ipad is just a huge ipod.. it's useless
serious artiste here guys
Nah not really, I'm just tired of seeing people go out and waste their money on an iPad because it's a great "art" tool, when there are so many better alternatives available, but of course they wont listen to reason cause I live in fucking San Fransisco, the home of hipsters and the Apple.
What is this shit? A toilet? CRAP! TRASH! He should have just drawn art in the sand since it is a traditional medium.
What a compelling argument, you shifted my view on this matter entirely. I am now convinced that the iPad is an amazing tool of art and shall never argue on the matter again.
