I'm willing to bet that there ARE tiny bacteria and shit down there
Starchild will be pissed. Watch out for monoliths.
what is this?
Books/movies
When I read the title I thought it had to do with Europa from Valkyria Chronicles...
You do realize that it takes at least 10 years to get there (with the current technology)?
Someone has not be following the news http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=825495
That just means the aliens are Eskimos.
You do know how cold it gets there as jupiter covers the sun ? You do know how cold it is there even with the sun ?
Yes because some teenager in FP knows more than a group of scientists Maybe if you actually read the article
We own that moon god dammit! EDIT: Yeah, i'm from Europe.
In that much time, I think we'll have the ability to just synthesize hydrogen and oxygen into water. Actually, I think we can do that now, except it's obviously fucking expensive and not worth it at all yet
That would need oxygen and hydrogen to be there in the first place. [editline]01:49AM[/editline]
Sure we do. It's not like your toilet flushes it into the sun.
I think you are not very smart or doing a bad joke. I was speaking of distributing water supplies to a space colony in the far future.
Can't believe no one has mentioned this yet. [editline]10:17PM[/editline] I don't mean the whole book. Just the "A Spy In Europa" story.
I thought this was common knowledge.
I thought it said Europe.
I think everyone thought that.

[editline]01:09AM[/editline]
That would need oxygen and hydrogen to be there in the first place.
Current rockets use oxygen and hydrogen as their primary fuel. [editline]01:10AM[/editline]
Well, the intense heat and energy coming from the planet core, due to tidal heating from Jupiter, has probably yielded environments with enough energy to cause a reaction between the base elements required for life, like underwater volcanoes, which are thought to be where life originated from. So if Europa does have underwater volcanoes, it's probably got the right conditions for life, and the potential to create life. So if there's any life in the solar system besides Earth, i'd probably say it's in Europa.
This. I'm willing to bet good money on this.
What if the world's governments sent some little microorganisms up to Europa and didn't tell anyone, and then one day, tens of thousands of years later, the inhabitants of earth find them and think they were always there. It'd be such a great prank to pull on further generations!

This isn't news, I've known about this since 08.
Don't mess with Europa: EDIT: I just noticed the shadows are the wrong way on that picture. EDIT: No wait, they aren't.
so fast that the oxygen concentration could exceed that of the Earth's oceans in only a few million years. so fast...

So.....eskimo fish people? I may have been ninja'd, not gonna look through 5 pages to see.
I may have been ninja'd, not gonna look through 5 pages to see.
You're not going to look through five pages? There aren't five pages to look through.
Didn't anyone read 2001/2010? We shouldn't go near Europa. It's not safe there.
Goddamn it, stealin' ma post.
We fucking need to put more effort into space exploration. There are such mysteries and miracles in universe just behind the doors, and people are just only concerned how to gather more and more wealth, only to die doing that. Seriously, I would happily give 20% or more of my income for science research in global, if I still could live a fine mid-class life. I just can't get people who treasure money just for sake of having them. I will get a house/flat suitable for family, a car, and then just keep making enough money to keep my stuff in suitable condition. I plan to die with exactly enough money for cremation.
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=827557
Yep, I have read this. Kinda promising. However, even if it was proven to work, it will take dozens of years to get into practice due to people not giving shit about anything they can't have personal gain from, so the research will get financed only gifts of batshit crazy billionaires who don't know what to do with money. I say, screw healthy people who don't work, and better put the money into research (as in Czech Republic, you can practically just shit on work, and live off social benefits)
due to people not giving shit
How the hell would people not want to donate to cross-galactic travel?
How the hell would people not want to donate to cross-galactic travel?
I don't know. I don't get it on my own. I guess it's the curse of the daily life for many people. Get up, go to work, get home by late night, go to sleep... Repeat for 60 years Die [editline]03:28PM[/editline]
How the hell would people not want to donate to cross-galactic travel?
The problem is, that the promises are often kinda obscure, and the profit isn't always guaranteed. Then, the research is painfully slow, as people struggle to help, as it doesn' always mean profit for them.

Socialism is, in the long-term, going to screw us over, while Capitalism in the SHORT TERM screws us over.

If we got working Socialism, I think it could actually boost the research to incredible heights. Incredible amounts of effort get wasted due to competition in capitalism. Unfortunately, fully working Socialism is even bigger fantasy than high-fiving aliens on Europa.
Drop some dolphins in that bitch.
Is the oxygen diffused in the water? If so, you might want to drop something in that can actually use the oxygen in the water...
