I just love how these people want to invade middle east countries, fuck shit up there and try to solve their problems while extremist religious leaders doing stupid stuff in the middle east, while they themselves are completely insane religious nutjobs. Except instead of stoning people they don't agree with, they legally cockblock them and want to basically make them illegal to exist.
Baby steps. We can start stoning them after we legally cockblock them. :v:
Gays can't marry. They should only be allowed partnership.
In the eyes of all major religions out there, union under god where both partners are of the same sex is against the religion.
Gays need to stop trying to change a religion and accept that what they are doing is against that religion. Marriage is the union between a man and a woman under the eyes of god, not two men\women.
If gays want a union like that they cannot do it under the eyes if god because it goes against the religion. Alternative could be making a "gay" god that is for games or some shit.

Except the US isn't a theocracy.
Also, please point out any where in the bible it says that marriage is a strictly religious act.
The Puritans of New England did not get married, preferring to call them "civil unions" and put such things strictly in the hands of the civil services as the bible did not specifically speak about marriage being a religious matter.
I missed most of this debate because it was at like 7AM on a Sunday.
But I did catch a couple of them saying the federal government has the right to force every state to be right-to-work, so yeah.

I agree that gays shouldn't try to change Christianity if that religion isn't allowing gay marriage in the first place because that would just be stupid and attention whoring, but I'm pretty sure most gays want civic marriage, which has nothing to do with god. If anything it's like partnership only with more legal importance.
The concept of marriage is older than christianity, so if homosexuals want to be able to marry, there's no reason it should be considered an attempt at changing a religion that just took the concept of marriage and basically made it mandatory to any straight couple following the religion.

Straight people shouldn't be able to marry. They have shamed the institution of marriage with their mass amount of divorces and I've had it. We should march on washington and seek to put these people in prison.
This is a joke.

I really love how social conservatives attack with viciousness at homosexual marriage yet say nothing about divorce - which Christ himself specifically said was a really terrible thing.

Conservatism:
Attack abortion while having abortions
Protect the sanctity of marriage while getting a divorce
Claim gays are godless while soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom
Decry welfare while accepting millions from lobbyists
Preach the importance of life while supporting wars overseas and capital punishment
Spend money responsibly but have one of the most bloated and expensive militarizes in the world
Talk about the importance of freedom while passing laws that destroy civil liberties
I really love how social conservatives attack with viciousness at homosexual marriage yet say nothing about divorce - which Christ himself specifically said was a really terrible thing.
That "divorce is terrible" thing is incredibly outdated now. It made sense back in days where women couldn't work and had their ass handed to them if their husband just left (and back then if divorce was allowed you could be assured the guy would be the only one able to ever ask for one), so basically divorce was forbidden so men couldn't dump women in the street and leave them to die. It's pretty much the same as the whole "you rape a woman, you marry her" thing going on in Islam, it was because men were also forced to support their wife or wives as good as possible, so having to marry the chick you just raped was an actual, sensible punishment. Now in a society where women can work it's stupid to forbid divorce.
This being said, of they don't talk much about straight couples massively divorcing these days it's because divorce is already legal and well admitted as such - while gay marriage is still forbidden. In one case it's about making something illegal, in the other it's about keeping something illegal. And it makes a lot of difference for them, apparently.
Saw this as an ad. Laughed my ass off

I've always thought that candidates shouldn't be allowed to talk about their political rivals.

Now here's a guy who just doesn't get it.
I've always thought that candidates shouldn't be allowed to talk about their political rivals.
From what I saw, US presidentials and political campaigns in general aren't even about talking about good you are, it's about sinking the other candidates' reputation so you appear to be the least shitty guy, and that's pretty despicable.
It happens a lot in France too (and I hate it as much here, don't get me wrong) but the candidates also take time to tell why they should get elected regardless of the other candidates.
What's worst with France though is that twice now, the party that currently holds the presidency used the same shit tactic to get all the votes - they use their contacts with several television channels to push them to do alarmist reports about the rising of crimes committed by illegal immigrants from north Africa, so people vote for the notoriously xenophobic national front party, which makes its way to the final vote, and whoever is the second and last candidate at the second turn gets all the votes because everyone is scared of the national front.
The problem is, it worked the first time because the national front leader had a shitty reputation and because the socialists got pushed out by the national front, but this time around, the national front has a new leader (who's the daughter of the previous leader, who also founded the party), and it's very probably going to be the party who, for now, has the presidency, that's going to be bailed out, and it's not exactly sure people will massively vote for socialists this time, even though they're the most sensible guys out here, and the chances that the national front passes through the presidential elections and actually get the presidency are fairly high.
Long story short, France is about to get a racist bitch for president because of shitty political tactics, just like you guys from the US.

Well I'm Canadian, I'd argue that our conservatives are slightly to the left of UK ones and almost opposite of US ones
If you lie while officially campaigning you should be fined
That just reminds me of a interesting story.
5 or 6 years ago, Richard Dawkins and a few others raised enough to start an ad campaign on the side of London Buses, saying `There is probably No God. Now stop worrying, and enjoy your life.` Basically, a lot of money spent of a Bobby McFerrin lyric
In retaliation, The Christian Party (which is considered by anyone sane as extremely bigoted) had a series of counter-advertisments saying `There definitely is a God. Now join the Christian Party, and enjoy your life`. Now, since you cannot know for sure that there is a God, the claim is therefore libelous and a lawsuit could be filed against it. Dawkins and co tried and failed to do this, because in Britain, you cannot sue a political party for libel, simply because nobody ever expects them to tell the truth while officially campaigning!

Every Republican Candidate who is anti-gay should be made to live in San Francisco for a week. Not because they might learn the error of the ways, but because it would make fucking great TV!

It's certainly heading in that direction.
There'd obviously need to be a committee of some kind to decide on these cases, there'd need to be an appeals process, and an exception for anyone who makes a public retraction in case they didn't actually know they were lying
Negative on the bold part. It would merely ensure the act has no teeth, as every politician would lie their fucking asses off, then be all "...Nope, I didn't know it was a lie when I said it", and they'd get off scot free. And then continue fucking us over.
I would change it to read "Claiming you didn't know it was a lie does not excuse you. Do the research or don't say it."
After all, we can't get out of a speeding ticket by going "I didn't know the speed limit was 55", so there's no reason we should let the politicians lie because they "didn't know it wasn't true".
Yeah, because friends buttfuck each other.

Hell. It's more prevalent among single people in general. The internet is a wonderful place and there's so many sites for hook ups.

How do you think it's going to look for a politician if he has to show up on the news every second day retracting something he said the day before
Isn't there supposed to be some thing called "The separation of Church and State" in that constitution of yours that you won't shut up about?
The religion argument is getting old, I don't see how a trillion year old bible should still run with people. Yeah have some faith when worst comes the worst but society is changing and this is just one out of many changes being paused because of politics and religion.
If anything, religion shouldn't implied with politics, god cannot help you, god will not help you and the country needs to run with a man or woman that knows what they're doing.
And If I'm dumb for this post, so be it.
If heterosexual atheists can get married then gay people should be allowed to as well. Letting atheists marry is already taking religion out of marriage so not allowing homosexuals the same right makes no sense.
Also gay couples being just friends....what the hell? So gay people just want to marry their friends? Why do they find themselves physically attracted to the same gender then? Why do they have sex with members of the same sex? If they're just friends then there shouldn't be sexual attraction.
americans christians are the fucking worst
they give loans, don't pay tithe, celebrate heretical pagan holidays, generally ignore feast days, are fine with divorce and so on
I mean, if you're going to base your bigotry on religion you might as well follow the fucking religion
How is it that this country is so completely fucked that these degenerates are being taken seriously as presidential candidates?
The thing I've noticed that is the main contributing factor is the fact that Americans don't get a lot of international TV on cable. I mean, I just moved here, and I'm used to Aljazeera, RT, BBC, CNN and all of those broadcasting multinational affairs, there's nothing multinational about average cable.
It's like; 'YYYE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS YEEEEE OFOOOTTTTBAAALLL' and 'California news' on every single fucking channel.
I get here and it's like jumping into a really dark hole filled with water and you have no lifejacket. You just slowly sink to the bottom of all the bullshit piled on top of you.
I think this is largely the reason for american ignorance.
I mean, fuck me, more than half of these people are religious for gods sake.
