What about the mentally ill?
What about them? They are still would simply only need to be believably existent, not fully "functional" by our standards.
I'm punching the air, walking in circles and jumping. But I'm still not getting any weapons or armor. What am I doing wrong?
Wait so they made a simulation, something that's designed to be as close to the real thing as possible, of real life and they were surprised it looks the same?

Your answer doesn't make sense to me though.

Did you face the wall and play the whistle to summon the tornado?
This game sucks.

we should borrow more time from the pre-cambrian era
Your answer doesn't make sense to me though.
In other words only you would need to be conscious, all other people would simply be part of the program responding according to a specific set of rules.
Imagine it as communicating to two individuals on a computer, if you know one is a computer and one a real person but can not decide which is which then they are both essentially "conscious" by your knowledge.

Yeah I don't get the evidence part at all either. This could be true, but I don't think there's way to test this if we are part of the simulation.
As a programmer, creating a simulated universe has always interested me so I'm very curious about this if it's "so similar".
So this doesn't quite make sense to me
they think we're in a simulation because there are boundaries on what is and isn't possible to achieve? if they believe the actual, corporeal, top universe has no limits, why wouldn't this ultimate universe be capable of creating a simulation without limits? and so on, each simulation would have infinite power to channel into the creation of the next simulation on down
This simulation has some pretty great physics, what engine do we run on?
even if we were in a simulation, so what. Do we just give up as a race? We can't escape this simulation and be something else.
What do you mean, so what?
If this is true, it will have a plethora of philosophical implications for us as humans morally and intellectually.
If this is just a simulation, then how do we have consciousness?
You're thinking through the "rules" of the simulation. If this is a simulation, true reality may be run by a very different code.
If life is a game, I'm not a fan of this pay-to-win model they have going on right now.
consciousness really isn't that complicated
To those who rate disagree, it isn't actually that complicated on a cosmic scale, only when compared to our lack of knowledge.
Edit: Broke my automerge :(
So basically the evidence is that certain elements within the universe have limits which are similar to limits within computer programs?
Wait, if this is a simulation, wouldn't who/whatever's controlling the simulation turn it off when the people in the simulation find out they're in a simulation?
Depends on if the op is dickish enough to do so.

Reminds me of that one episode of South Park, when the boys and the rest of the world discover that Earth is just a reality TV show for aliens and its extraterrestrial producers decide they'll have to cancel it and destroy us in the process.
