not all radiation isn't bad for you.
things are called radiation because they radiate stuff. you're radioactive, you emit infrared light. everyone best run away from you because you're radioactive!!!
Do you know what else emits radiation?
Literally everything around you.
Yeah, probably stupid argument. Forget even mentioning it.
LiPo technology is prone to fires and explosions when treated badly or a bad batch occurs. not limited to iPhones, even remotely. not even limited to phones.
Anyone who messes with RC stuff will tell you be very afraid of your lipos, lots of people store them in ammo cans because they're terrifying. This is a worst case kind of video, but it can happen randomly very easily
You really shouldn't sleep with a phone close to you. Phones emit slight radiation all the time. And while it is not dangerous, it's still better to keep away when you sleep.
You know what else emits radiation.
Banana's.

But for a serious answer, like in the graph you see posted above phones don't actually emit ionizing radiation.
Ionizing radiation is a kind that is dangerous in higher amounts. A banana contains potassium, and does actually emit ionizing radiation, so much in fact that banana transports are sometimes stopped because they set off radiation alarms.
It's of course still not dangerous to eat bananas though because the dosage is so low. (but detectable)
The radiation your phone emits, and the radiation everything else around you emits, is completely harmless and will never hurt you in any way shape or form.
Also lithium batteries smell kind of sweet if they're getting faulty.
I remember I was trying to hack my PSP and it involved cracking open the battery and snipping a wire. Well I punctured the battery and didn't realize, started smelling this sweet smell and it got super fucking hot. Sprinted upstairs and chucked it onto the street where it smoked for a few minutes. Scary shit.
And that's why I don't mix sharp objects with batteries anymore. (Yes, for some of us it isn't common sense. :( )
It seems some do have this though. I was poking around in the audio folder of my phone, and found this:

I'm genuinely curious how the phone knows that the battery is 'swelling'... that's crazy. Hmm?

Likely effects the voltage current and it just has a check to detect the changes. I'd very much suspect the quality of the power given from the battery changes when it starts to swell and go critical.

Easiest way is probably a pressure sensor which is looking for a increase in pressure over a period of time.
This story reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend.
His phone battery was all swollen up, and his solution was to take off the back cover and keep using it.
I told him to keep that thing away from me.
He was like, "Oh sorry man" and proceeded to put the phone in his pocket.
I completely freaked out after that:
"Don't put that shit next to your balls man :c"
Dont lipos also explode on excessive discharging.
IIRC most devices that once Lipo batteries cut off at around 5-15%. and there have been cases where iphones "exploded" on planes just because the cutoff failed and it discharged over the limit.
