I dunno, they're good enough for my Lizard.
What will be ignored by some animals will be fatal to others.
We eat snails? News to me.
Give it a try someday, they aint as bad as they sound when shallow fried in sunflower oil with a light vinegar dressing topped off with a tiny amount of basil. Just don't go picking any out of your garden, very huge chance they'll have a worm parasite inside them.
I'll pass, more insects for other people.
I'd eat it if it were processed in a way so that it didn't look like insects. Like, if it were some sort of slush with an appealing color, I think I'd be okay with this.

You eat bugs?
Dammit you westerners. Insects don't taste that disgusting I've tried fried mealworms in Thailand, it ain't that amazing. Its just crunchy. You don't taste anything disgusting.
It's ridiculous. How is a shrimp, crab, or lobster any better than insects? I personally think candied locusts are very good. Most 'Westerners' though would rather have a billion people die than consider a source of protein that doesn't need to be grown and fed for years before being brutally killed.
What will be ignored by some animals will be fatal to others.
Our of curiosity what is the difference? It's a Cricket, since you know so much about all this stuff.
I don't think they will taste bad or anything, the problem lies more in that they're scary as fuck and I don't want them in my mouth. I mean fucking wasps, in my food??
No thanks, UN.
Wasp nest on the barbie.
hey umm UN how about you instead Fuck off?
I'd eat an insect if I forced myself to. I'm sure the first step is just imagining that's not what you're eating, or stop associating them with gross things.
I'd eat an insect if I forced myself to. I'm sure the first step is just imagining that's not what you're eating, or stop associating them with gross things.
it's probably less disgusting in preparation than meat is, as much as I love to eat pork, beef, ham, etc...
I could eat any insect that is crunchy but not anything slimy ew.
As long as it's not raw I'd might try one.

You don't taste anything disgusting.
I heard Witchetty grubs are not all that bad. I've personally tried scorpions and grasshopers. Pretty good tasting if you ask me. On the other hand, we could also start teaching people to breed birds, rabbits, and all that. Seriously, if you've got room for it, you should be doing it.
Fried ants covered in chocolate. I've had that once, and it tasted okay.
I've had deep fried crickets before, they tasted like really crunchy bacon. Maybe if we bred or genetically modified crickets to be bigger, you could just shell them and then they'd be much like prawns? Because the shells are the unappetizing parts, really.
I don't see the difference between a bug and something like a shrimp. It's just pure close-mindedness.
Our of curiosity what is the difference? It's a Cricket, since you know so much about all this stuff.
I wouldn't know the exact species of bacteria, and how they respond to different environments, but anything raised in the kind of environment those things are... is not suitable for human consumption.
Cricket burgers anyone? Maybe a nice spider steak? How about centipede bacon?
Mind you this post might be a bit hypocritical but I always found it funny how people will eat shrimps and lobsters but consider other arthropods such as beetles for example gross and wouldn't consider eating them. Like me, I know I LOVE lobster and shrimp but the thought of chowing down on something like a beetle.. :suicide:
Why should the west eat more insects when there are supermarkets and restaurants that throw away perfectly good food because no one buys it?
Curried Crickets are pretty nice get stuck in your teeth though
big fat grasshoppers/locusts could be tasty. wonder if they could be eaten in the same way as bigger shrimps and prawns
I wouldn't be overly against it as long as it was just something crunchy. Just thinking about it brings up the automatic "ew" reaction but if someone handed me a cooked mealworm I'd give it a try.
look at all you narrow-minded assholes complaining about food prices, world hunger, inequality, global warming, and all that shit, and yet you get defensive at the thought of having to change your habits to improve the situation. it's fucking insects, people have always eaten insects and still do all over the world.
Why should the west eat more insects when there are supermarkets and restaurants that throw away perfectly good food because no one buys it?
maybe so we don't have to produce all they perfectly good food that no one buys. a whole lotta more energy goes into producing corn than breeding insects
I don't see the difference between a bug and something like a shrimp. It's just pure close-mindedness.
This thread looks mostly like it's made of people being squeamish about eating insects with a small minority saying that they're not bad. I've never eaten them but I'd try something like grasshopper, given the chance.
