François Hollande, the current President and a Socialist, is so dismally unpopular that he's set a new precedent by being the first President since the establishment of the Fifth Republic [I]not[/I] to run for candidacy again after his first term. I actually quite like Hamon, but he's left-wing even for the PS, and as a result, moderate socialists will go for Macron, and the more radical socialists are torn between him and Mélenchon (neither of whom would dare drop out of the race to allow the other to succeed).
