Flocka cancelled his concert at the campus because of this video
Good idea on his part. What the fuck were they thinking? He goes hard in da paint.
I literally live about 15 minutes away from their campus. There was a lot of talk going on today about this. I was made fun of all these years for never joining a fraternity. I am so glad I never joined a fraternity. From a college senior to all members who plan to attend a college: Do not join a fraternity/sorority. You have to pay to be a part of them and all you're really doing is buying your friends. I find that making friends based on interest alone makes much better and much more compatible friendships.
To be in a frat (at least in my school) you gotta pay $200 a semester. Fuck. That.
For ours it's about $1,000 a year to be a member. Although if you like to fuck as many women/men as possible, a fraternity/sorority is just for you.
Sounds like joining a fraternity/sorority is a waste of money.
Reddit exploded about this today. "MUH FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!"
What? I didn't see anyone on Reddit thinking that who wasn't downvoted.

There's a number out there that are actually pretty good.
This is one of the reasons why I'll never join a fucking fraternity at a university. I don't want to pay money to make friends. If I want to get in a damn party, I'll find it myself. Our local university was in the news recently over one of their frats breaking into a fucking zoo, beating the shit out of a flamingo, taking it's mate back to their place and partying with it. Stupid idiots even made a vine rapping about the whole thing the same night.
Sounds like joining a fraternity/sorority is a waste of money.
it's more or less networking for rich people and as we all know rich people are food not friends
it's more or less networking for rich people and as we all know rich people are food not friends
That's pretty much what it's all about. Fucking off and partying in college and using frat links to your bros' rich families to waltz into a well-paying job in finance or some shit.
The jealousy is strong in this thread. (User was banned for this post ("Why reply" - Craptasket))
The jealousy is strong in this thread.
You know, you're right and you're wrong. There almost certainly is a hint of the ease that these guys' lifestyle and connections give them, but there are plenty of people in better situation for whom there is no hate for on this forum (Notch, Elon Musk, etc.). Not every time people don't like a particular elite group does it have to mean that it's envy.
but there are plenty of people in better situation for whom there is hate for on this forum (Notch, Elon Musk, etc.).
what
The jealousy is strong in this thread.
man I would love to be rich and not worry about having to get a job and I could just party every week yeah
what
Sorry, I meant not. My mistake.
Most of you have some terrible, biased views on fraternities, which isn't all that shocking. I could go through several posts quoting your cons and state effective counter arguments. Sure there are some stereotypes that actually are true. Yes, we party but doesn't everyone else? We're just an easy target to hate. Also, yes sometimes these drunken fugue states get the best of us and stupid shit happens where it happens to make the news, and we all know how the media can be. Do a hundred good deeds and barely recognized for it but fuck up once and oh boy the media is going to have a field day. When i first went to college, i never thought I'd be in a fraternity. I got dragged along with a friend i made in the first week of classes to go to a rush event held at a fraternity house. For those that dont know what rush is, it's a week dedicated for students to explore the fraternity houses, meet the guys, hear what they have to say about their history and goals, and decide if it's something you want to pursue further which leads to pledging. Anyways even after the event i was still eh about it all. Fraternity brother called me up later that night inviting me to a formal dinner the next evening to really introduce what it's about. So i went and eventually pledged and initiated long story short. I absolutely abhor the view that we pay for friends. I pay my dues because my money and everyone else's goes towards house maintenance, insurance, budget for philanthropies, etc. The list can go on with legit reasons rather than simply i wanted friends. I pay to be part of something with like-minded guys and reach the same goals. You pay for a gym membership? Same idea. I have no problems with making friends. I have several friends in other fraternities and even outside of greek life. Now i can sit here and rant all day about these negative views and i'm already going on a bit so in short, don't let a few bad apples ruin the entire batch and don't let others brainwash you that fraternities are the biggest scums on the campus. If it's sometbing you'd like to explore then by all means go to a rush event. Hear them out. If it's not for you then it's not for you but let that be your decision. I admit, fraternities aren't everyones cup of tea, but god damn i fucking love my fraternity. I have had some of, actually, THE best times of my life with my brothers. Best decision in college and perhaps my life that I made. Also hint: studies have shown that greek life report higher GPAs than non-Greek life students across the nation. /rant [editline]10th March 2015[/editline] Just realized how huge my post is. I apologize for my walls of text. Got a little carried away.
The jealousy is strong in this thread.
Wait, what are people jealous of
The jealousy is strong in this thread.
Or maybe we just hate stuck-up mega-rich rapist morons who drive daddy's Ferrari drunk and get in a wreck
Or maybe we just hate stuck-up mega-rich rapist morons who drive daddy's Ferrari drunk and get in a wreck
That sure is an accurate description of every person who's joined a fraternity ever. But yeah fuck these guys, glad they're getting the fucking hammer.
There's only a token few frat kids who aren't complete assholes. Fuck fraternities. They're a waste of time and money. To be in a frat (at least in my school) you gotta pay $200 a semester. Fuck. That.
You realize the dues you pay all come back to you, right? Its not just some money pit. And saying "they're a waste of time" is a complete matter of opinion. If you don't like it, don't join. Simple.
What are fraternities anyways? I may be in the US, but I moved here. All that I here about them are bad things, like gangs in education or something
The biggest difference between them and gangs is that frats have a lot more upper class white people.
What's the deal with blacks, there isn't any reason to hate them for fuck's sake.
No there isn't at all - but this article explains pretty well, in a short few paragraphs, why there is such a stigma.
Two students have been expelled due to this. [editline]10th March 2015[/editline] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5ZTPuKbYO8
I've heard both good and bad stories from fraternitys and frankly I have no idea what to think.
Jesus this story just gets more crazy. The cook at the frat house, who also happens to be black, has now lost his job over this that he's had for over 10 years since the house got shut down. But someone started a fundraiser for the guy to help him on his way and they've already raised over $50,000 for him. That's pretty damn nice.
Also hint: studies have shown that greek life report higher GPAs than non-Greek life students across the nation.
coming from a large, strongly greek university, i have a lot of friends in frats and can identify with what they do and the sort. hell i even rushed unsuccessfully. buuuuut, i think you might want to consider the presence of cheating in greek life (if what i've encountered even slightly resembles other largely greek schools). might that have an effect on the statistics?
Anyone cares enough to explain to me what the hell is greek life?
A bunch of college kids said something offensive, how shocking. Two of the kids got exspelled for just chanting that little song.
I guess the cheating isn't that good...my brother flunked out because he jointed a frat and spent all his time getting wasted and blowing his parent's money instead of going to class.
I apologize in advance if my structure and organization of my posts seem... awkward. Laying in bed on this dumb ass phone of mine so excuse any typos and such as i try to be as concise as possible. Not going to lie, yes unfortunately that happens to some guys. I have some pledge brothers that fall into this category but i feel like it's something that was inevitable and a fraternity with their partying only sped up the process. The guys that flunked out were because they weren't serious about school simply put. Now i have seen brothers of mine party their ass off and yet still can make the deans list and graduate. As for the whole cheating thing playing a possible role in higher GPAs, I can't say that's not the case because I'm sure there are several instances of it but it might also be a small variable in those reports. With so many brothers, there has to be at least one other with the same major or at least taking some of the same classes as you. You're bound to ask or be asked for help and get together to study and help each other. This goes back to what i stated earlier in my previous post. Like minded guys with similar goals.
I founded my fraternity chapter. I was the founding president, and I gained respect fast, even though I was seen as young blood in the greek game. It was a hell of an experience and it took a long ass time. Over the development of it, I found a few common trends. Every fraternity chapter in this country has cancer. Its cancer is a few, or more than a few members, that threaten to compromise and destroy the hard work it took to build a brotherhood. These men do not represent fraternities as a whole. Please stop hating on fraternities because you have your closed, media fed, outsiders view.
For those that have questions about fraternities and want more insight about them instead of getting the stereotypical responses, please feel free to send me any PMs. I'd be more than happy to respond to them and give you the best response possible while also be a realist about it. I've been in my fraternity since 2011 so I feel like I have a bit of experience on the matter
