All that money, and they couldn't even afford a plywood cover...
I find the lack of funds... disturbing.
This is flawed. If anyone who has taken chemistry would know that the 94 cents would not be a significant digit. I bet his %-error would be like 79%
Haha awesome. I like the guy that did this calculation for us.
Someone had way too much time on their hands.
Another Star Wars fan calculated the precise power draw of a Star Destroyer turbolaser by using the asteroid scenes in Empire Strikes Back.
By my calculations, this guy has about a 99.89793% chance of dying a virgin.
It always bothered me how in Kotor they could destroy a planet with just a fleet of ships, but they needed a whole space station.
I want a personal deathstar.
It always bothered me how in Kotor they could destroy a planet with just a fleet of ships, but they needed a whole space station.
Technically the planet wasn't destroyed only the city. Also that was from the capital ship that did the bombardment.
in a galaxy far, far away, another military superpower spent way too much money on massive planet-busting weapons that didn’t work well.
That's zing-worthy, right?
By my calculations, this guy has about a 99.89793% chance of dying a virgin.
I find it kind of funny. Since your avatar is Keith Apicary. Basically. A guy who goes around conventions acting like a super nerd.
If you want to really get nerdy, you could argue that figure is based off of using materials from the moon/mars/earth, and transporting it all. I bet you could cut that figure down to under 50 septillion dollars by simply taking a moon from saturn or jupiter and converting it. It also probably doesn't take into account that the entire thing could probably be managed by only 100,000 human workers controlling millions of robots, and instead thinks of millions of human workers. I know it doesn't state that, but I can't imagine it'd cost that much when most of the process could simply be mining/converting instead of building. In fact, it could even be built faster than the death star and be more effectively manned by less workers if you didn't make so many damn hallways.
And if you did want to build the whole thing from scratch instead of just taking a small moon (Mimas anyone?!) I'm sure if a galactic civilisation like the one in Star Wars existed materials would be comparatively cheap because there's mines set up galaxy wide and materials like gold and silver and other things that we currently consider rare would suddenly seem a whole lot more plentiful.
and yet, the Empire couldn't afford $20 to put a metal board over the Death Star's tunnel to its power core.
No shit, they spent it all on the Death start in the first place. The insurance sure as hell paid off though, I mean they built a second one with the insurance money.
But Doctor Eggman could build one cheaply and call it the Death Egg
But Doctor Eggman could build one cheaply and call it the Death Egg
Wasn't that basically the plot to Sonic Adventure 2?
See this is what happens with inflation. If we had ron paul as president-for-life it would likely be only 10 septillion dollars
MEANWHILE AT NASA
Reminds me of the killing floor.
Never seen star wars, what does the death star even do?
Never seen star wars, what does the death star even do?
It can destroy planets
How about we just strap some rockets to a planet or something and just fire them at whatever we want to make dead.
Wasn't that basically the plot to Sonic Adventure 2?
No it was Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles [editline]17th September 2011[/editline] For the record, Dr Robotnik is a billionaire.Plus why no one ever question the cost of building the Justice league space watch tower anyways? And why no one wonder how much does a single halo ring installation cost?
Never seen star wars, what does the death star even do?
what i dont even are you human
Ya but the Empire controlled how many planets and sectors at the time? Palpetine prolly didn't give a fuck yo
Wow, surprised how someone else actually beat the US defense budget by a long margin.
That's only 268 billions years of 2009's GDP of the whole earth.
Best bailout money ever spent!!
That's only 268 billions years of 2009's GDP of the whole earth.
The world's in debt, surely it would only be around 240 billion years if we weren't?
and yet, the Empire couldn't afford $20 to put a metal board over the Death Star's tunnel to its power core.
It was a vent I think.
Another thing that needs to be considered is that the Empire got it's materials from many different planets it conquered and built it using slave labor. (I remember specifically that Wookies were among the most used species) [editline]17th September 2011[/editline]
It was a vent I think.
Yes, if I remember correctly it couldn't be covered.
how much would it cost to build spaceballs one or the flying winnebago
