someone needs to check his privilege now
The funny thing is that the guy probably didn't even intended it in that way, like "it'll all be over soon, just like rape, durr" but since everyone nowadays is in such a fuss with the topic and have their radar always in search for things that hurt feelings, it suddenly makes it a rape joke.
All aboard the outragemobile, destination, Pointlessville. Christ alive, find something else to bitch about. God knows there are enough other things to get more upset about more deserving of your complaints.
Here we go again, another hack from Kotaku starting a shitstorm over nothing.
Did you actually read the article? People began tweeting about this immediately and not just from Kotaku.
On Twitter, the audience reacted right away. "Wow. This is really gross. Male overpowering a female in a game, so of course, rape joke. Good one, Msoft," @Vahn16 tweeted. "Oh my god. One of the people just made a rape joke onstage and the audience actually liked it. That's sick," @IatosHaunted tweeted. "Even if it was unintentional, Microsoft should've realized they shouldn't make a rape joke in an environment already toxic with misogyny," @stillgray tweeted. "Let's bring a woman on stage and joke about how she's bad at games, and say stuff like 'relax, just let it happen, it'll be over soon'??" @Jonathan_Blow tweeted.
[editline]lol[/editline]
wasn't really paying attention when it first happened, but on second viewing holy heck that actually does sound really rapey I seriously doubt he meant for it to be like that, but it was all kinds of tactless and he should have known better
These demonstrations are usually heavily or entirely scripted so either someone approved him saying that or they've got some really lax control as to how people represent their product. Either way when someone says something bad it's the company they're representing that takes the flak.
wasn't really paying attention when it first happened, but on second viewing holy heck that actually does sound really rapey I seriously doubt he meant for it to be like that, but it was all kinds of tactless and he should have known better
That guy should have checked his fight stick privelege.
"I see nothing wrong with this and have no idea how anyone could find this offensive." - Microsoft E3 Team.
you don't think the line "wow, you like those" was pretty inappropriate and awkward? especially when combined with the previous "it'll be over soon"?
All aboard the "who gives a fuck" train.
you don't think the line "wow, you like those" was pretty inappropriate and awkward? especially when combined with the previous "it'll be over soon"?
What did he even mean with that? What could it even mean anyway?
also, this was someone's idea of humour. how embarrassing
What did he even mean with that? What could it even mean anyway?
Rape, apparently.
Anyone seriously thinking that was something to get upset over has issues.
I don't know, at first I thought the reaction was stupid but now I see the point.
Rape, apparently.
It could. Just because it could mean rape doesn't mean it does. To bring up an incredibly old joke, fingering a minor refers to a technique with playing snare instruments but you never hear anyone going 'wow, pedophile remark, good job' when somebody mentions it.
also, this was someone's idea of humour. how embarrassing
Uhm... I think the only people who think about it as a rape joke are oversensitive people looking for things that hurt feelings (like I previously said, and rapists... IMO, its one of those things that "if it sounds like that to you, you should get checked"
That was a rape joke? God, people, get over yourselves. I didn't even spot it until watching it again and then reading the article. If anything it was just sexual innuendos, I don't know where rape came from at all.
Sad that this becomes news nowadays. It wasn't a rape joke, or even a joke at all. Stop looking and over-thinking what everyone says and get the fuck over yourselves. Christ, people.
Given the current climate of sexism in gaming, how can you fuck up this monumentally?!
Not to mention they had to do it with the first woman taking the stage for Microsoft's event You're looking at a multi-million dollar event organized by massive corporations centered around a culture struggling with misogyny and the best think they could think of was to throw in some "haha i raped u" level of humor entertaining!! clap clap
Uhm... I think the only people who think about it as a rape joke are oversensitive people looking for things that hurt feelings (like I previously said, and rapists... IMO, its one of those things that "if it sounds like that to you, you should get checked"
not really, i'm not even a woman and i can tell it sounds creepy in its entirety(mostly due to the second part of the joke) lol. he basically told a woman she "Must like fight sticks" after telling her "It will be over soon", you don't need to be a genius to know how this could be taken to some, especially to feminist groups who probably deal with misogyny daily. also its a bad joke overall, and horribly forced lol.
If there's a lesson to be learned here it's that you're held accountable for everything you say at large events like this regardless of your intent.
Silly humour, maybe. Even then there's nothing remotely offending about it. This is something that could come up in everyday conversation, getting mad about it is borderline psychotic.
its sad that you cant even trash talk in a game without being ostracized and shamed they are playing a game where you fight to the death and because he implied a sexist concept hes suddenly hitler
People find this offensive but the things children say over Call of Duty funny? I don't get where the line is between a genuine joke and crude rape joke.
some random asshole on the internet =/= staff of a major company
If there's a lesson to be learned here it's that you're held accountable for everything you say at large events like this regardless of your intent.
this is probably the first lesson everyone should learn about speaking in public lol.
if you really think this doesn't sound creepy at all maybe you need to re-evaluate your social life/skills
if you really think this doesn't sound creepy at all maybe you need to re-evaluate your social life/skills
explain please
It was stupid of them to talk shit like that and the people over-reacting and causing a shit storm are fucking stupid too. Like holy shit, it is a terrible joke. Not even funny, It was like "meh" fucking move on. I've heard way more offensive jokes and seen more offensive jokes on the internet (Likely they have too) are they going to cry and flip shit when they read it? Its called getting over it and moving on.
It's actually sickening that you people are thinking this is an overreaction. It was a terrible choice of words.
I remember a time when the internet didn't have things like privilege or misogyny flinging back and forth between every single person and their dog. I miss the days when people would understand jokes when they were to be had, and just ignore the stupid jokes and remarks and move on. It's great people are striving toward equality for all, but the efforts are being over shadowed by every idiot who feels the need to analyze every word for a deeper meaning. And in turn throwing labels at everything that could be found even a tiny bit offensive. Maybe I was just ignorant back than, but ignorance is bliss, as people have said.
It's actually sickening that you people are thinking this is an overreaction. It was a terrible choice of words.
It's a huge over-reaction. Poor choice of words != malicious intent. I seriously, seriously doubt he meant it as a rape joke and you shouldn't treat it as such.
