That does not mean the woman getting hit on by a creepy guy in a bar is not allowed to complain about that kind of abuse, but it does mean that it has to be talked about, along with everything else.
How is it abuse for a man to flirt with a woman that she happens to percieve is creepy?
So even if we do not self censor things that might be offensive to others, we can at least be more aware that seemingly harmless things can be harmful to some. Also, I did not mean to use the term mentally unstable, wherever I used that. It is not supposed to be insulting to people, but it should not be used because people who are more affected by the term than I am are offended by some of the negative connotations the term has taken on. I made the mistake of using it, but now I am taking it back because of awareness about possibly offending someone. That was easy! [editline]11th June 2013[/editline]
How is it abuse for a man to flirt with a woman that she happens to percieve is creepy?
It only is if he does not stop when she tells him to, I worded what I said before badly. It also depends on how he flirts with her too. Lot's of guys think that just saying "nice ass" or "I'd fuck you" counts as flirting. To lots of women, it is not only creepy, but sexual harassment, and therefore, yet another way in which men attempt to make women feel objectified, etc.

I still find it strange how people get into so many arguments and such about what basically amounts to a giant advertising shtick.

And censorship is fine if it is self censorship. It is not Big Brother type stuff, simply understanding not to say certain things, even if you do not see them as that bad. Also, I realize that arguing with you guys is dumb because we agree on enough stuff and we are not these people: We disagree on a few things but we are leagues ahead of those guys.
You're right, it was barely a joke at all. It was still hurtful to those that were hurt by it, like my friend. And I said that in my long post, that it would be very hard to create a society in which nothing people said triggered anybody. It is still worthwhile to limit where possible. I won't even discuss trying to limit it on an internet forum full of mainly white teenage males (I believe that statistics describes most of facepunch, 4chan, and reddit, though I COULD be wrong), but I believe that it is not wildly ambitious to not have to deal with these types of comments on a broadcast by a major corporation, at least. Maybe it is just that Microsoft knows their main audience.
I'm pretty sure race has nothing to do with this. gj trying to fight discrimination with discrimination
I'm pretty sure race has nothing to do with this.
the first step to arguing is to generalize who you're arguing with so you can be better than them clearly
How the fuck was that even close to a rape joke though ? I've heard dentists say "just relax it'll be over soon", seriously.
My mum told me the same thing before I went to my first driving test... I never knew she was a rape enabler :( Thanks feminism!
Even if it was a rape joke, why is everyone so butthurt about it? Nobody got raped, he wasn't suggesting people should rape, and only hardcore femenists seem to have hurt feelings about all this. He didn't even straight up say Stop getting so butthurt about everything that you think has a minor relation to rape or sex with females.
generally when you have a fucking press conference youre supposed to generate good pr if you generate bad pr you failed, you failed really hard if this "butthurt" stops this stupid shit from happening in the future then so be it god bless hardcore "femenists"
Could somebody explain that "priveledge" thing to me? I don't understand it.
Could somebody expalin that "priveledge" thing to me? I don't understand it.
It basically refers to the benefits or advantages you get for belonging to a group in power or the majority (without them being considered legal rights). It's usually something we take for granted and it's hard to see past it (for example heterosexual people are privileged in the sense that they can have public displays of affection whereas homosexual couples would face hostility and ostracism for the same thing), which is why a lot of people get defensive when their privilege is questioned. The term "check your privilege" is really just fancy talk for "put yourself in their shoes". Not by any means a radical or shocking concept, really. I don't understand why people get so flustered when someone brings it up.
I'm pretty sure race has nothing to do with this. gj trying to fight discrimination with discrimination
I am just pointing out that privileged people will find it harder to relate to the importance of certain issues. It's not discrimination.
euuugh not everything is a personal attack on women he chose his words poorly but what he meant to say was "the asskicking will be over soon" he wasn't saying he was raping her fucking calm down
I am just pointing out that privileged people will find it harder to relate to the importance of certain issues.
You're basically saying that anyone who is white (and especially if they are a man) will not feel sympathy or see any importance in matters like these?
No, he's literally saying that it's hard for privileged people to recognize and look past their privilege because it's something we take for granted.
People get upset by this? God.

The whole console is a rape joke
all the fuss over a fucking joke. And it was the subtlest thing ever.
I'm glad he made a dumb rape joke since it certainly won't sell more Xbones. Only thing that could've made it better is if he made a snarky "Kill all jews" remark after that.
Lol, how are people offended over that? He never said anything about rape, but he was being better than her at the game, and smacktalked. I connotate that sentence more to strangling someone than raping them to be honest, but it isnt a horrible murder-joke
Yeah they're looking too much into this.
People are way too sensitive about everything.
I'm gonna go out and say that maybe the rape connotation likely wasn't meant, but you should probably be more aware of the things you are going to say at a press conference that hundreds of thousands of people are watching.
I suspect that Microsoft probably thought that such a mundane run of the mill conversation about a video game wouldn't generate so much hysteria, outrage and general discussion because there's literally nothing to talk about, but evidently that was a stupid thing to think.
anyone offended is a bitch but they should've been prepared for this kind of shit fit
