That sounds like police and state overeach if the police would actually be able to search your house whenever they want without notification.
They don't do it routinely, but they can.
One guy lost all his guns because when the police raided his roommate for shooting a wolf (we're really sensitive about those. Near death sentence) his keys were in the lock or on top of his gun safe.

I'm glad we aren't

EEA country. Some EU regulations apply, not sure if gun laws are included in that, but I doubt it.
The EU gun laws don't apply to Norway.
As for the ban, as it says there will be exceptions for sport and such, I'm all for it.
This is misinformation. Semi automatic rifles are already banned. A handful of exemptions are made, a couple of these at most will be recalled. The article in question is terribly misinformative.

what this will change however is that police now can do a house search under the impression they "check your gun storage". before this would have to be informed of 48h in advance. they can now do it as they please, just pop in in uniforms at your door and check. it's bizarre and not legal judging by our constitution.

and "semi automatic guns"? we can still buy pistols and semi auto shotguns out the wazoo if we please..
Eww. I take back my previous statement. Random warrantless searches is just stupid. I thought the Norwegian government knew better than that.
