• The XBox One Trainwreck Continues: Mandatory Region Locking Confirmed

The next feature better be that if anyone buys the XBox One, a tiny gun comes out of the front and puts a fucking bullet in itself. Because watching that would be 100 times more interesting than the console will ever be.
Fuck this gen, I'm getting a Famulator, Legend Of Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario Bros, Galaga, and a bunch of Chinese/Taiwanese carts. No social features, no DRM, no TV, no shit motion controls, no ads, just pure games. With all this money I save, I will essentially Press Start To Rich. :v: Or maybe a Generation NEX and a flash cart. I'm seriously considering buying a Famiclone now, just because they are more affordable than the NESes at the second hand shops. I blame the Dendy Chronicles.
Why not just get a real Famicom...? Famiclones are shit.
Its fun to just sit here with your high end pc and be totally untouched by all this shit.
Its fun to just sit here with your high end pc and be totally untouched by all this shit.
yeah there are no PC games with intrusive DRM at all :downs:
yeah there are no PC games with intrusive DRM at all :downs:
Piracy and cracking my friend. Piracy and cracking.
Its fun to just sit here with your high end pc and be totally untouched by all this shit.
Indeed it isn't. [sp]I have a powerful notebook that will probably melt sooner or later...[/sp]
yeah there are no PC games with intrusive DRM at all :downs:
While you can easily-or not as easily- circumvent any DRM on the pc, It takes a 'jailbreak' to do so on a consolle, risking to fuck it up, cutting yourself out of future software updates, and not all games are bound to work even then. While these kind of DRM-s will give pirates a field day, they will surely be overcome. they always are. On the other hand, they will fuck up so many legitimate consumers. Online modes shouldn't be a requirement, it should be a bonus feature for legitimate customers. It's something you can offer to have your legit copy of the game have something more than the pirated one. ie- I bought a game from the us (USversion) because it will release in a month in southern europe(Multi9 version). The game is shipped and I have my legit phisical copy. I put it in the tray, the consolle reads it, checks online / it's made differently on purpose to just read multi9 versions and goes 'beep boop sorry, can't play this, fat chance'.
okay yea PS4 is going to win ( or WII u )
They better have a damn good reason for this
Would shock me if I ever gave a shit about Xbox one. Not to start a holy war, but is there a single reason to prefer it over PC?
Sad thing is, the Xbox One will probably sell way more than the PS4 due to the name. I'm totally getting a PS4, but I know so many people who are psyched about the new Xbox, simply because it's a new Xbox.
What's next? The US government openly supports Xbox One? Shit can't get much worse.
lol i think MS is paid by Sony to literally do this shit, how can someone shot himself more than one time?
Going to modify the quote a little bit, but Xbox One: " If I was in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, or myself, and I had a gun with two bullets, I'd shoot myself twice "
Would shock me if I ever gave a shit about Xbox one. Not to start a holy war, but is there a single reason to prefer it over PC?
convenience, obviously. that's why consoles exist.

The PS2 was the best selling console of all time, and most definitely had a familiar/ popular name, yet it sold worse than then 360.
Why not just get a real Famicom...? Famiclones are shit.
I have a real famicom, I would regard it as a really dumb investment cause I am on PAL so I dont get any colour, nor do I get any sound, tons of static and a just unpleasant gaming experience. AV modding is out of the question, because I need a transistor that is discontinued fucking everywhere
The Xbox One was once boasting of his speed before the other consoles. "I have never yet been beaten," said he, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge any one here to race with me." The Wii U said quietly, "I accept your challenge." "That is a good joke," said the Xbox One; "I could dance round you all the way." "Keep your boasting till you've beaten," answered the Wii U. "Shall we race?" So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Xbox One darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the Wii U, lay down to have a nap. The Wii U plodded on and plodded on, and when the Xbox One awoke from his nap, he saw the Wii U just near the winning-post and could not run up in time to save the race. Then said the Wii U: "Plodding wins the race."
Did the Playstation 4 forget he left the stove on and not show up for the race?
Did the Playstation 4 forget he left the stove on and not show up for the race?
The PS4 had no game.
Did the Playstation 4 forget he left the stove on and not show up for the race?
He was too busy getting yet another slim model.
He was too busy getting yet another slim model.
So he got liposuction again?
The PS4 had no game.
His games were training in the hyperbolic time chamber
I'm actually interested. Hardcore gamers are going to hate the Xbox One, but I'm really not sure if MS' s actions will have an effect. Why? Because they are appealing to publishers and what they want. So if MS gets publisher support that may get gamers to buy the next Xbox anyway.
Wouldn't bet on it. We might end up with nobody buying the thing and in response publishers abandoning it. Like what EA almost did with the WiiU. Or at least that's what I hope for. I will say tho they might cushion their fall by selling the thing to non-gamers, which is who all the TV features are for after all.
I have a real famicom, I would regard it as a really dumb investment cause I am on PAL so I dont get any colour, nor do I get any sound, tons of static and a just unpleasant gaming experience. AV modding is out of the question, because I need a transistor that is discontinued fucking everywhere
Ah, I keep forgetting about PAL. There IS an official solution, actually: the Famicom Hong Kong Version, which was an officially-licensed Famicom that played JP carts but output in PAL. They're kinda rare, though, and thus expensive... Yeah, if you're on PAL then I guess a famiclone or a PAL NES with Famicom cart converter are your reasonable options. I'm aware that PAL NES's don't grow on trees over there, too, but at least it's more readily available than HK Famis.
All xbox games will be available digitally too; it's obvious that the Microsoft Marketplace will be the central pillar of the whole 'experience' that includes both PCs, tablets and consoles. It will be exactly like Steam is and that is why Gabe Newell came out so heavily against Windows 8. The next generation of consoles will be about 'services' rather than hardware (i.e. what we've had with steam for almost a decade now). I find it interesting to see so many people point to region locking as a huge problem... Everyone called region locking on DVDs, Blurays, PSX, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, and about a million other devices retarded yet they still sell. I also find it strange to see people trying to praise Sony for not having region locking when their entire business model has been about hugely proprietary technologies that have fucked over people for at least the past 2 decades... Also keep in mind Sony actually removes features from its products well after launch. In fact, the funniest part about this entire discussion is that everyone is complaining about things like second hand game restrictions and region locking when they are purchasing a completely locked down device! If you were that concerned about a company locking down your locked down device I really have to ask why you would be purchasing a locked down device in the first place? Not only that, these devices are heavily sold on the basis that they will feature 'exclusive' content (i.e. content that could run on any console or 'device' but is restricted so that companies can maximize profit--i.e. the same reason they do things like region restrictions!) The bottom line is that for the average consumer it will still sell like hotcakes regardless of things like region locking, and the biggest point is that it probably won't affect much because a lot of people will just purchase games online (granted this won't be as big in countries where bandwidth is an issue).

Is there an off-brand that game devs are developing for that don't have this lock down bullshit? If there is I'd love to know. We're not buying it because we don't mind that they do it, we buy it because there's no one else to buy from

We're not buying it because we don't mind that they do it, we buy it because there's no one else to buy from
PC? Call of Duty started on PC and became multiplatform. Halo was pretty much a mac game before Microsoft bought it out and was multiplatform for the first 2 releases. Gran Turismo is a game that is exclusive to the Playstation (and in this day and age makes no sense being exclusive) Forza is an xbox exclusive (again, no reason for it to be) Especially for simulation titles like Gran Turismo and Forza the PC offers a much better experience (multi monitor support without buying 3 xboxs and also you can use a far larger range of controllers as well as devices like TrackIR). I think there was a point where GPUs on computers were too expensive and 'specialist' for games to become as mass-market as they are now, but we passed that point long ago. Both the xbox and PS4 are being made from what are pretty much PC components. Once developers are able to exercise more independence from publishers (which they can do on platforms like Steam or GoG) we'll start to see things move to multiplatform. IMHO, the fatal flaw of the gaming community is continuing to support devices that empower modern-day publishers. If you want better games, support developers instead.
All the stupid 8 to 14 year olds will probably still buy it.
region locking made sense when tvs couldn't handle anything but their native format, be it ntsc or pal. why do we still have it.
They had VCRs that could play NTSC VHS on PAL TVs, so it's no excuse.
Why not just get a real Famicom...? Famiclones are shit.
More affordable at the moment, and it has AV. That and I like having detachable controllers.
Halo was pretty much a mac game before Microsoft bought it out and was multiplatform for the first 2 releases.
I'm actually surprised someone actually acknowledged this. So many people I know refuse to believe the game was ever a RTS or a Mac exclusive back in its early development.
