Thats one of the greatest fight scenes ever made. This episode truly showed how manly captain kirk was.
why
would the borg appear in the TOS reboot
that doesn't make any sense, at all
it's an alternate universe so they can pretty much do what they want
not that i think they are going to use the borg, but doesn't really have to make sense
[editline]1st December 2010[/editline]
what's with all the story arc hate
Picard!...........that is all.
Most believe they were horrible series.
Even though I loved DS-9
Uh, Voyager yeah, but DS9 has a fucking huge fanbase
Most Trekkies actually love that series

The whole point of the alternate universe was to change subtle details about how the story cld have played out, not change the entire fucking thing.
[editline]2nd December 2010[/editline]
You won't see a voyager movie mainly because voyagers story ended at the end of the tv show. What would the movie be about? You would have either already seen it via tv shows or it would just be the crew at earth celebrating for 2 hours...

Either make the scene serious, or a huge joke (Eg. Kirk is running from something, decks the lizard guy and keeps going)

it doesn't matter what the point of the alternate universe was, what matters is that it could make sense if it happened
Just to make it clear; the alternate timeline is under three ideas-
1)Nero's arrival in 2233 caused a shift in technology, as the Kelvin scanned the Narada, detailing at least some of the tech from the late-24th century in the original universe.
2)This alternate timeline is based on ours as it is, with our technological advances accounted for.
3)Because of these two factors, the universe is far more advanced than the original universe at the same time, and may even rival the TNG era ships.
So a Borg battle wouldn't be too far off. Only reason Narada kicked ass was because it was from a future where the Borg were more advanced (aka, the main series'). The Borg were not altered by the timeline shift, presumably. Doesn't mean I'd like to see Borg in Star Trek XII.

They may not intend it, but they've rigged it to be able to change, literally, anything they so please. If these people want to say the borg come about, they fucking can, sadly.
And all those complaining about me saying DS9 was horrible - I mean the general audience, not the mainstream Star Trek lovers. I loved DS9 more than TNG at some points.
I liked the 2009 one.
It was alright.
Could of been great.
But instead, they made the phasers act like blasters from Star Wars.
Bastards.
Does the 2009 film use the TOS warp scale? I hope so, because the TNG/VOY/DS9 one is horrible and responsible for FUCKING THRESHOLD.
wait hang on - what the hell is the borg. i've seen it mentioned 38487455 times but still have no idea what it is.

Let's see some of those good old fashioned Star Trek morals then and none of this phasers-to-kill shit.
As long as they don't use Spock's Brain as inspiration, or that episode with the space hippies.

Really hoping for a Terran Empire movie.

Mirror Universe is where it's at.
I wouldn't mind a re-imaging of Wrath of Khan; but without Shatner's horrible acting it wouldn't be the same.
KHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
I think the most promising plot would be the Enterprise being stranded in the mirror universe dominated by the Terran Empire
I think the most promising plot would be 2 hours of that fucking disgusting new enterprise having the living shit blown out of it repeatedly. Its like some chavved up ford fiesta, its HORRIBLE.
You simply cannot beat the TMP and TNG era starship designs.

I had a thought; the timeline split would also have caused the Mirror Universe to split, since there's no guarantee that the episode "The Tholian Web" will happen in the new timeline. If that doesn't happen then the Defiant doesn't end up in the Mirror Universe and there'll be a line of different emperors since Hoshi doesn't get the ability to become empress.

I agree
but you're missing the point of the trek reboot - it's basically a big awesome flashy action movie made to appeal to mainstream audiences and at the same time keep classic trek fans happy by throwing in as many nostalgic references to TOS as they possibly can (but not distastefully, mind you [fuck you george lucas])
it KINDA looks like star trek but it doesn't feel like star trek - star trek was always, as you said, more about deep thinking and morality than set-phasers-to-kill which the reboot had to sacrifice in the name of mass audience appeal (not to mention the fact that it's a movie and TOS was a tv show), but if you ask me they did an excellent job at finding the right balance between the new and the old
you guys should watch redlettermedia's review of this movie because he very thoroughly explains what I'm talking about and why, despite how star trek isn't very much like TOS, it's still a pretty darn good movie (in case you don't know redlettermedia [aka Mr. Plinkett] is the guy that does the very well known 70/90 minute star wars prequel trilogy reviews)
here are the links to his star trek review: part 1 & part 2
Redlettermedia is very good, watch the TNG movie reviews as well. It shows how Trek degraded to the point of a reboot in the first place.

This is true. It would create a new "Mirror Universe".
This is true. It would create a new "Mirror Universe".
I don't know about that, because the first universe still did what it did. Who's to say that both the primary and XI universes can't mix with the Terran Empire universe.
I don't know about that, because the first universe still did what it did. Who's to say that both the primary and XI universes can't mix with the Terran Empire universe.
The Mirror Universe has always existed alongside the Prime Universe. Therefore the JJ Universe must have its own Mirror Universe which either diverges from the Prime Mirror Universe at the same point in time as the Juniverse, or "always" exists alongside the Juniverse (which, given the Juniverse is a divergence from the Prime Universe, would mean it diverges from the Prime Mirror Universe. I think.) It is entirely possible that characters could cross between universes (case in point: Prime Spock), but I imagine that to appease Star Trek fans (and to just help everyone understand what's going on) they'll avoid muddying the waters.
I don't think the first one had enough lense flare, I hope they add in a bit more in this one.

Nothing, but it'd make more sense to a viewer to make a new mirrorverse.
