Ubisoft: 95% of PC gamers are pirates BWAAAAAAAAAAAAH
i regret buying from dust, not because i didnt like it or because it had a bad drm, but because they really show how little they care about a part of their community.
it will sadly be the last game i buy from them.

I suspect the fact Gabe said all this almost immeadiatly after Ubisoft made those stupid claims is not coincidence.
The point is that Steam is the DRM.
You are labeling Steam as a DRM? Just because one of it's many components is DRM?
By that logic an HDTV is a foam peanut, because foam peanuts come in the box as an HDTV.

Steam functions as drm. A foam peanut does not function as an hdtv.
It's a good drm with many benefits, but hey

Steam is not a DRM. It is a store, service, and it has DRM. You make it sound like it's sole purpose is DRM, that is really dumb and would leave someone who has not heard of Steam very misinformed.

OVERALL, it acts as a DRM within context of your library.

Ok true, but it's not comparable to say, Securom which has no pros, no features, no goodies, store, sales, etc. Most people find using Steam a better experience than using a non-Steam version of a game.
Another reason Piracy isn't a problem is how cheap they sell their own Products, and how soon the6y drop prices/put them on sale.
It's funny though because I've heard multiple stories about Portal 1 piracies. Which just shows how many stupid people there are out there who will pirate anything.

But in this case one must pick the lesser evil.

I bought it and I didn't really enjoy it myself. But I am not poor so I don't mind supporting valve. But I can totally see no reason why portal wouldn't be pirated?

Maybe I didn't word that correctly. I'm talking about after the several amount of times that the game was free as well as gone on sale for insanely cheap. There is literally no reason to not own Portal 1 by now, even if you missed the sales.

There is actually. Not everyone uses steam and not everyone wants to get it just to play one game. And since it's free, does it matter if they got it on steam or pirated it?
You guys bitch about Ubisoft's Internet only DRM, yet Steam is innocent. I had no internet other day and I couldn't play Skyrim. It is not all that brilliant.
Are you a full on retard? Offline mode is right fucking there. Ubisoft doesn't offer that. You HAVE no argument.

Please learn how to make actual analogies
Please learn how to make actual analogies
"An interior component is part of the Application! That's the same as an Exterior component being part of the electric hardware!"
[editline]27th November 2011[/editline]
The analogy was bad, point was good.
Please don't post about having pirated a game or games even if you bought the game afterwards. We don't need to know this.
If I steal a bar of chocolate and I go back to the shop next day and buy another of the same bar because I enjoyed it so much, does that mean I didn't steal the first bar?
[editline]25th November 2011[/editline]
The rules say you shouldn't "openly declare" that you pirated.
You didn't need to ban that guy and you also didn't need to close his thread due to him being banned. Step up, you're a moderator. Not a ban-happy six-year-old.

That's not quite the same. Similar, but not the same.
If you pirate a game, then buy the game later, it's not a different game. If you steal a candy bar, then buy the same brand, it's a different candy bar.
The way to pay for a stolen candy bar later is "Hey, I stole one of these the other day and now I feel bad, so ring that one up twice for me, sir"
otherwise not disagreeing with your post

The ban was completely necessary. Facepunch does not condone piracy in any way and the moderators must enforce the policy.

You didn't need to make this post and you also didn't need to be an asshole in the content of the post. Step up, you're a Facepuncher, not a special-ed student.
Look at the pricing strategies Valve uses versus, say, Activision. Portal 2, which by the way is packed with tons of new content compared to Portal) went from $50 or $60 (I can't remember which) down to $30, and even $15 while officially on sale, in just a few months.
Fucking Black Ops, basically a re-skinned, badly ported MW2 is still at $60.

I'm talking about the flaming ban. The piracy bans were fairly warranted.

That's also warranted. Flaming has never been allowed on FacePunch, it detracts from the quality of discussion.

I think once Valve breaks even they say fuck it and drop the price.

He didn't necessarily completely flame him. I've seen a whole lot worse that I've reported and nothing was done except a warning.

That is flaming. Just because other people didn't get banned doesn't mean it's okay.

Because they arent greedy bastards :v:
