I wonder how many people in this thread read the article. They didn't have one guy dress up in tactical gear with an assault rifle and just walk into a theater as the title and blurb suggest. They had a couple of actors dressed up as the film villains, with another guy dressed as Iron Man, standing around in the lobby as a promotion, with clearly fake guns.
Still a bad idea, but at least understandable. These guys don't look like mass killers, they look like convention attendees.

made me happy as shit because they got the black guy to be dressed up as the black guy!!!
But in all seriousness this that bad at all, especially since most of the audience enjoyed it.
You think everyone wants to focus on the negatives and keep remembering the shooting? Most people want to forget about it, anyone here calling this a "sick stunt" is just being silly.
so mister gun dude genius, you'd be able to instantly know if a gun is fake or not if you were in a dark-ass theater?
even if the gun looked like this?

Yeah, i'm pretty confident in my ability to identify a clear plastic airsoft M4 in a well lit theater lobby held by some dude with a group of cosplayers.

You mean the white guy they retroactively decided was now black?

Did these scrubs not even watch the film? Fury isn't even in Iron Man 3.
We have worked with the Cosplacon group on many movies to dress up and help entertain our customers.
If it wasn't a problem before any theatre shootings previously, why is this an issue now? They broke no laws, hurt nobody, and did what they've always done before. Not to mention most of the people actually enjoyed it. People need to fight their fear and not let it control them, otherwise terrorists and lunatics are going to win out each and every time. I don't let these events affect the way I live my life, so why allow it to affect yours?
I can't help but worry that in the "if only people in the audience had a gun this could have been prevented" romanticized scenario, you could end up with some hero opening fire to stop what they thought was another adam lanza walking in
then who's to stop a second hero from thinking that guy is a lunatic then opening fire on him
and so forth
narrow what-ifs but it only takes one misunderstanding
What if this what if that blah blah. What if aliens show up? What if an asteroid hits?
You act as if all conceal carry people are trigger happy hero wanna be's. Yet, as much as people like you say these what ifs none have happened.
No OK Corral. No Wild West shoot outs. How odd, huh.

not to mention their guns have bright orange tips on them. that's like, the universal "hey this gun is fake dw" sign.

If I wanted to do a mass shooting I'd find it pretty clever to attach an orange tube at the end of my gun, fake or not.
I guess mass shooters aren't that smart since I've never heard of anyone doing it.

I heard they just put their guns in bags and out of sight instead of parading around with them.
I always find the "untrained ppl with guns" to be slightly overblown. You don't spend the time and money on the paperwork (which involves training btw) on a whim/highlight]. I hate to bring up stupid news buzz but what about the whole "gunshows without proper checks" thing, and general stupid people who just think it's their right to have it and don't want the government to regulate them at all

oh no, slippery slope!! how dare I mention something even I say is a super slim chance scenario based on an ideal a number of people try putting out all the time, usually with the addendum "If I was there this wouldn't have happened".
except this has been on the record as a split decision away from reality, in Arizona, where conceal and carry doesn't even require a permit.
As he rounded the corner, he saw a man holding a gun. "And that's who I at first thought was the shooter," Zamudio recalled. "I told him to 'Drop it, drop it!' "
But the man with the gun wasn't the shooter. He had wrested the gun away from the shooter. "Had you shot that guy, it would have been a big, fat mess," the interviewer pointed out.
Zamudio agreed:
I was very lucky. Honestly, it was a matter of seconds. Two, maybe three seconds between when I came through the doorway and when I was laying on top of [the real shooter], holding him down. So, I mean, in that short amount of time I made a lot of really big decisions really fast. … I was really lucky.
When Zamudio was asked what kind of weapons training he'd had, he answered: "My father raised me around guns … so I'm really comfortable with them. But I've never been in the military or had any professional training. I just reacted."
I'm completely confident most people are smart, responsible owners who aren't flaky idiots looking to use their guns 24/7, but I have to bring up the fact that I'm from Chicago again to make a point about how not everyone is a ~law abiding perfect citizen who registers everything~
Between here and Detroit's awful portions of our towns, shootings are such a common story that it barely makes local news. there's a good number of instances of cops shooting at people because they thought they had guns, tons of instances of gang members shooting at people because they look like other gang members, and of what IS reported on it's usually about stupid instances where gang fire on the streets ends up going through someone's window and nailing a kid. Tons of people get shot for tons of reasons, even up in my cushy little suburb where it's mostly redneck types and latin gangs that keep to their areas.
like I said, it's a huge, very narrow possibility of a what-if, but I'm pretty familiar with how twitchy some people can be because they aren't trained, but are edgy wannabes looking for their chance to pull a gun. Don't brush anything off because you aren't personally that type and it's not a buzztopic
And yet, your Wild West shootout and OK Corral scenario has never occurred.
Also, just because you are from Chicago (How are those gun bans working, by the way? I bet that is the most safe city in the country. ) You put the likes of a law abiding citizen in with criminals...? That makes little sense. I am not saying everyone with a gun is law abiding.
I have encountered many scenarios at work involving law abiding and licensed conceal carry individuals who had all the chances to open fire...and did not.
I also have encountered those who had chances to open fire AND would have been legally protected to do so...and they did not. Because of self control. People said that around here also. "People will be shooting each other for parking spaces!!!!" and so on. Yet.... oddly....
It has not happened. Even in your situation which you posted... the guy did not shoot.
So, where are these OK Corrals? Where are the "CCW guy shoots other CCW guy who gets shot by another CCW guy who then gets shot by a cop who is shot by a CCW guy who is also shot by another CCW guy." ...?
