UK wasp population sees 'huge decline' this summer

There are 3 yellowjacket nests currently attached to my house. This news makes me happy.
Now the bees can come back!
Say good morning to them the same way my dad's friend did to his local nest.
Point blank with a 12 gauge shotgun.
My dad destroyed a wasp nest from a tree near our sauna some time ago. He failed to mention it to me, so when I was taking a sauna that evening, just chilling outside with a beer and naught to cover my delicate parts, I started feeling some tickling an then pain in my legs. When I looked down, a fucking angry swarm of wasps was buzzing around my feet, and at least half a dozen were already stinging me.
The next time I came out of the sauna, I was armed with a deodorant flamethrower.
All I see is house-flies, where the fuck are all the bees at, let alone the wasps.
A decline in wasps is alright since they're quite violent and predatory, but what we really need is a boost in the populations of bumblebees and honeybees. Those guys are chill and only attack as a final last-ditch resort to defend the hive, since when they sting it rips their insides out as the stinger gets stuck in the target. Plus they produce a neat surplus of nutritious honey with which we supplement our diet.
I saw a wasp a couple of days ago. Horrible creatures, I hope to never see another.
pollination man
Bees pollinate. Wasps exist just to make your life, and indeed any critter within 150 miles of it's, life miserable.
As scary as wasps are, they serve a part in the echosystem as predators, it's not good if they are on the decline.
Time to move to UK.
Welp we have a wasps nest under construction on our balcony again. Just noticed when I was watering my plants.
God dammit.
keep them you might get a good haul of honey :v:
Same seems to go for mosquitoes. It's been over 20C for over two weeks, my windows have been wide open, but I've yet to hear a single mosquito buzz around my ears.

they still pollinate
Never try to use fire against wasps.
Because if there's something worse than wasps, it's burning wasps coming right at you.
FYI we do rely on wasps. A main reason is they are good at killing pests on farm fields. Decline of wasps = increase in certain plant pests
20C won't do jack to mosquitoes. They don't start to slow down until it's well over 35 degrees. The biggest factor that limits their numbers is lack of standing water so they can't breed.
What I meant is that usually with these temperatures, leaving your window open means you'll be smacking mosquitoes all evening if you want a good night's rest. The warm weather in February followed by a second winter period really wrecked their shit.
Wasp-Up with all these vanishing insects?
I hope it wasn't beecause of our cell phones.
Can't say I'm sad to hear this, I got stung by two different wasps yesterday while out walking dogs. Think I must have been near a nest or something. First time being stung too, good god it hurts, my wrist feels like its completely bruised just from one sting.
On the bright side, I came home and smoked out a wasp nest that had taken up residence in our loft, revenge is sweet.
wasps are cooler than bees
I thought this was going to be about WASP, and I was confused about what the christians hated so much about the summer. :v:
I saw some, now they're just gone. I haven't seen a bee in a very long time though.
They can go contribute to the ecosystem elsewhere, I don't feel like going outside all the damn time and seeing them swarm around my patio, sunny California is treacherous, good for the UK, though.
I'm totally ok with this. Well, hopefully not much relies on the wasp in terms of ecosystems.
You'd be surprised. They eat a fair amount of larvae and other parasites, so while it's good they're not annoying people at barbecues, this could have a serious knock-on effect.
I don't understand why so many people have problems with wasps. Just keep calm and don't attack them, and you won't have any problems at all.
