then there's no reason I can see for posting what you did
People that call what they did to the boy justified.
People that call what they did to the boy justified.
who do you think I am and what do you think I'm arguing for?
Maybe let your kid wear blackface. Jesus fuck. [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline] ITT white people saying POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD because they can't wear blackface in the year 2012. [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline]
you doubt it can ever happen because you won't let it.
yeah bring back vaudeville end racism
No seriously, fuck you if you are offended by this. No matter what analogies and shit you draw, this is an 8 year old.He doesn't understand why someone might be offended, and he shouldn't have to. Maybe if people spent less time about not offending absolutely anyone, and maybe if people stopped feeling that they are entitled to never ever being offended by anything, this kind of shit would not happen. The kid wanted to look more like Martin Luther King, a man who wanted race to make no difference. He used blackface to resemble Martin Luther King. He also dressed up in a tuxedo. Should we find that offensive? It's very ironic that people would make a big deal out of this.
Wow that superintendent is the biggest racist prick I've ever heard of, what would happen if a real black person were to try to get into that school? Probably burn him on a fiery cross. I thought this behavior died out in the 60's
No matter what analogies and shit you draw, this is an 8 year old.
And an 8 year old's parents who didn't think "maybe we shouldn't put our son in blackface"
yeah i dont really see how the parents could have possibly thought this was a good idea
the kid dressed in black face as a caricature of MLK if a school is there to teach you right and wrong how the fuck can a school let something like that go on? it's amazingly degrading, it's like if they wanted to portray a famous jew and decided to put on a giant nose and yarmulke. [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline]
I think political correctness has gone too far.
oh fucking piss off with that political correctness bullshit. it doesn't even mean anything anymore, it's just a buzzword now.
oh fucking piss off with that political correctness bullshit. it doesn't even mean anything anymore, it's just a buzzword now.
It's just a phrase angry WASP males use when they're being dickheads about things.
No, he hasn't. You people are seeing things that don't exist because some whiny bitch had to whine about absolutely fucking nothing. The only reason this looks racist is because people are calling it racist.
hello, i'm a white person and i'm here to tell you how you have to react. you're not even from the US, what possible right could you have to say how a "whiny bitch" (yeah if they don't agree with your views they are a whiny bitch, nice one) should react?
the kid dressed in black face as a caricature of MLK if a school is there to teach you right and wrong how the fuck can a school let something like that go on? it's amazingly degrading, it's like if they wanted to portray a famous jew and decided to put on a giant nose and yarmulke. [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline] oh fucking piss off with that political correctness bullshit. it doesn't even mean anything anymore, it's just a buzzword now.
2 things: the kid is too young to know what a caricature is. presumably his thought process was something like me white > MLK black > make myself look black and afaik school isn't a place to teach morals, it's where they teach you like geometry and stuff
It's just a phrase angry WASP males use when they're being dickheads about things.
it's all gone downhill lankist, it used to be that you could make disparaging comments about people's race and they'd just have to take it because they were marginalized in every single way. golden times bro
the kid dressed in black face as a caricature of MLK
While I do think this was a pretty bad idea all around I don't think it was done from the 8 year old childs viewpoint to be caricature and overtly racist.
i doubt the kid knew what he was doing but surely the parents were helping him with this project? if so then they should have been the ones to nip this before it got anywhere near the classroom
it's all gone downhill lankist, it used to be that you could make disparaging comments about people's race and they'd just have to take it because they were marginalized in every single way. golden times bro
Why do they have to be golden times? Why can't it be black, white, or purple times? Your color-based discrimination is offensive.
hell anyone who's taken a basic american history class knows what blackface is and how fucked up it is
2 things: the kid is too young to know what a caricature is. presumably his thought process was something like me white > MLK black > make myself look black
yes but it's not political correctness to tell you that's wrong. maybe the way the school went about it was wrong, but i don't really care about that.
and afaik school isn't a place to teach morals, it's where they teach you like geometry and stuff
when you are 8 years old, you're learning social interaction and basic learning skills, not geometry.
i doubt the kid knew what he was doing but surely the parents were helping him with this project? if so then they should have been the ones to nip this before it got anywhere near the classroom
i do agree with this
Only in today's society can a 7 year old dressing up as Martin Luther King be interpreted as racist What next, a black kid dressing up as Obama will be racist too? "Hey! That kid is black! And the president is black! He's clearly dressing up as him because he is black too, that's racial favoritism!" [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline] If anything, a white person dressing up as a black person, one they themselves call a hero, is nice

was expecting cute picture of the little kid, 0/10 thread.
Kid looks more like a coal miner than a caricature.
2 things: the kid is too young to know what a caricature is. presumably his thought process was something like me white > MLK black > make myself look black
The parents weren't. Not only did they help, they were there, at the school on that very day, watching. Even if it was all the kid's idea and they had no clue, on the day of the fucking thing neither of them went "holy shit our son is wearing blackface."
picture
poorly applied blackface is still blackface.
