yet again, nobody is mad at the fucking kid.
i know so why did you post about MLK and vaudeville and blackface when you replied to my post about what MLK might think of this if it's simply that he'd think the parents are fucked, then yes I agree
i know so why did you post about MLK and vaudeville and blackface when you replied to my post about what MLK might think of this if it's simply that he'd think the parents are fucked, then yes I agree
Because he would pretty damn certainly recognize the racist symbolism even if the kid didn't. [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline] Considering he was surrounded by it throughout his youth.
i don't think you or anyone is in a position to guess what MLK would think of this. it's a silly thing to bring up. MLK was a civil rights leader half a century ago. how can you possibly speculate as to his feelings about an eight year old in 2012 darkening his face to look black?
he wasn't particularly fond of the practice.
@ lankist, thisispain no shit
This is actually pretty funny to me because while I feel bad for him and his mother, I put on black face for a play, portraying a black guy, for THREE WEEKS and not a single person complained. I guess it just depends on the area and what sort of people are interacting with the situation. This was an innocent young boy portraying MLK Jr. which should've been more of a compliment than anything, because it means that he is a hero to this boy, because of what MLK Jr. stood for. He stood for equality among all, which in this situation should've been why the boy should've been allowed to do this.
what was the play and the role
lethal weapon 5
You Americans are so butthurt over nothing, seriously. It's a kid trying to play a black person to the best of his abilities...
There's a difference between 'nigger', a racist insult, and 'nigga', an alternate way of saying 'friend'.
Still sounds stupid and offensive when said by anyone not black.
Kid nailed it.
Still sounds stupid and offensive when said by anyone not black.
It sounds stupid no matter your skin color.
It sounds stupid no matter your skin color.
so you're saying black people who use the word as a term for racial solidarity are stupid
It's like saying someone driving a Volkswagen today is stupid because of the mass recall in the 70's.
Not really? It's more like somebody wearing one of those native american chieftain hats, which is stupid for reasons that I hope are obvious.
how many black people do you know [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline] shark fucking stop cutting me
It sounds stupid no matter your skin color.
i'm going to guess that you're not a fan of hip-hop
You Americans are so butthurt over nothing, seriously. It's a kid trying to play a black person to the best of his abilities...
A kid was trying to play MLK. The fact that MLK was black shouldn't matter. The kid shouldn't have had to dress up in the first place but also shouldn't have used black face to try and portray someone who fought against this kind of thing.
You Americans are so butthurt over nothing, seriously. It's a kid trying to play a black person to the best of his abilities...
hi there white non-american mobrockers2 here to tell you that your whole racism deal is just a bunch of nothing *flies away on fairy wings*
this reverse-racism has gone too far. we need to do what MLK would've done and paint our faces black for a march on washington.
Blackface done right
Well the blackface was kinda unnecessary but kicking the kid out for that was not only overreacting, but also a complete misunderstanding of the kid's intentions. It's quite clear he didn't want to use a blackface to goof up on black people like people used to a while ago, but just wanted to give the whole thing a bit more authenticity.
this reverse-racism has gone too far. we need to do what MLK would've done and paint our faces black for a march on washington.
No. MLK wouldn't have painted his face white nor would he have told you to paint your face black.
Oh well, people overreacting, nothing really new here.
he actually didn't do that bad with the costume and wow that school is fucking dumb
i think we've already established that a.) the kid isnt really to blame as he didnt know any better, and b.) the parents are idiots for not realizing what they were doing was wrong
Jesus Christ guys, it's not "blackface", he's just wearing makeup There's a difference between mocking negroes and trying to be one
Jesus Christ guys, it's not "blackface", he's just wearing makeup There's a difference between mocking negroes and trying to be one
Well even if he is trying to be one then he is missing the point MLK was making completely and his parents are idiots for thinking its a good idea.
No. MLK wouldn't have painted his face white nor would he have told you to paint your face black.
wow dude you showed me the error of my ways thanks
Well the blackface was kinda unnecessary but kicking the kid out for that was not only overreacting, but also a complete misunderstanding of the kid's intentions. The kid's parents were given a choice of taking the blackface off or leaving and the parents chose to leave. [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline]
There's a difference between mocking negroes and trying to be one
getting too obvious now bro
getting too obvious now bro
Then why don't any of you see that [editline]22nd May 2012[/editline] Or that school, sorry
