The people you read about online are far from the only feminists around nowadays, they're just the only ones you pay attention to.
This is important.
Most men carry the heavy odor of oppression.
It smells like mothballs, ramen, and indignation
It'll be a cold day in Hell before I let a bunch of weirdos tell me what is and isn't offensive. Have any of these people at these conventions even met others with the supposed triggers that they are fighting against? Also, what the fuck are they talking about with white gays appropriating black female culture? That has to be one of the most stupid things that I have ever heard.
You have already been conditioned from birth to find certain things offensive. The media is very good at telling people what to do and think without directly saying it. Better yet is that they can also directly say it and yet people still don't raise questions.
Note: this conference has a part where they claim gay men are taking black culture
It's true, we gay men are taking Black Culture... Up the ass.
Well if we can't clap, and jazz hands are too silly, there's always *nodding respectfully* towards the speaker.
I don't think it's fair to judge something as broad as feminism based on a handful of whacky tumblr blogs. Those people are only half the problem.
TERFs and other hypocritical organizations are as well.
I thought that exposure aided in treating anxiety and ptsd. Am I wrong?
I thought that exposure aided in treating anxiety and ptsd. Am I wrong?
Yes and no. Exposure therapy is a valid technique, but you don't cure veterans by taking them to the shooting range. To be therapeutic it has to be in a controlled environment and done very deliberately.
Do people like this realize that by doing this they are essentially belittling people who seriously suffer from PTSD and have various triggers? Feminism should be about real issues, not something that makes anything it touches a ridicule.
Jumping in on this triggering debate. When it comes to a person-on-person basis or within very small groups, I feel being aware of accommodating has a much, much more free reign. I have my own issues with exgirlfriends, where hearing things that remind me of them male me very, very upset. If a friend starts singing a song that reminds me of an ex, I'll say "hey, that kind of brings some bad memories. Mind avoiding it?" If I'm in a public space, though, and it comes on, I'm not going to go "excuse me, you can't play this song, it triggers me." No. I'll deal with it, and if anything, hurry my way out of there. You don't change a whole, grand appeal to fit a small minority of your audience.
