how the fuck did they not check the weather
They would have. Pilots fly through shit conditions all the time, and the weather was in the area, not at the airport itself.
They probably figured that since it was reasonable enough to take off, and it was only for 20 minutes, they could have got there without too much trouble.
i remember circling around Logan Airport in a snowstorm once, then we came down for a landing and had to pull back up because it wasn't de-iced
that was scary as fuck, can't even imagine what this was like
She was flying from College Station. Which is like a 2 hour drive tops with traffic.

Where does it say it was a 757? I've flown "Express" jets from Houston to Minneapolis, I doubt Continental would waste a 757 which is designed for long haul flights to Hawaii and other vast distances on a place that's ~100 miles away.
My father refuses to take express jets. The only time he did was Minneapolis-Houston strangely enough.

But anyways, I might of missed it, but how much is she demanding?

Money for a top fema job, so 2 million (20 years of working at 100k), medical support
probably a few million
BUT she said 'that she wants the jury to decide what is right', which is what her lawyer told her to say, which means 'this kind of case hasn't been tested before and the airline might be up for millions upon millions in punitive damage'
Why the hell did she get on the damn plane in the first place if there was a tornado watch going on? Yeah, the pilot shouldn't have taken off, but common sense would tell me not to get into the plane even if it's just going to sit on the tarmac. Airplanes aren't exactly the kind of structure I'd want to be in in a tornado.

Multiple pages later, Facepunch's attitude of victim-blaming continues to shine
the greatest part about all of this is all of those "ridiculous" lawsuits you hear about actually have legitimate reasoning and often are spun so horrendously by the media
ie the woman who spilled coffee on herself and sued for "3 MILLION DOLLARS!!" actually just asked for about 20k from McDonalds to cover her medical bills after they had received numerous complaints and previous lawsuits about the temperature of their coffee. and it also caused 3rd degree burns within 6 seconds of being on her genitals, yeah. she also didn't even get the money lmfao
good to see that a news source is actually covering it fairly
this is such a probleam today :V
sad really
that pilot needs to be reeducated
It was safe when they took off, and it was only a 20 minutes flight.
I imagine they thought they'd make it quickly, and more than likely pilots are dissuaded from canceling flights.

Living between College Station and Houston myself, I didn't get a drop of rain nor hear of any tornado warnings in the area. She probably didn't know there was one near by.

Chances are the weather was reasonable when they took off
Alan, it's really not her responsibly to be make sure the conditions are safe before getting onboard.
do you crash test cars before using them?
