So the phones don't work if there's even a tiny obstruction such as your hand, and their solution to this is an object that completely encases your phone
good one apple

On the iPhone 4 it's more like holding your phone a certain way bridges the 2 external antennas but yeah.

sweaty hands shorts the antennas, plastic doesn't.
Couldn't they have put some clear enamel coating to prevent people actually touching the antennas?
what pisses me off is that it doesn't seem that they didnt do extensive testing before releasing the phone?
they knew about the "problem". so yeah, obviously they did testing.
why does it matter so much, you have to hold it in a bloody awkward position to make it lose reception.
I still find it hard to believe they didn't catch this issue before they shipped out the iPhone 4.
Fucking bullshit apple you guys cant handle the fact that you shipped out a defective phone fucking Steve Jobs i cant wait till retarded mac fanboys figure out that apple products suck.
Wouldn't a case just make it slightly worse?
This. Is a terrible idea.
Wouldn't a case just make it slightly worse?
The problem with the iPhone 4 is when you hold it in your left hand you bridged the connection between the wifi/bluetooth antenna and the phone antenna which fucks shit up.
well it doesn't change the fact that it's STILL a piece of shit
Your just mad because you can only afford go-phone or VIRGIN mobile. Also, the iPhone is not a piece of shit all phones lose signal if you hold it a certain way.
Everything has problems. However when it's related to Apple, it's posted all over news, blogs, and blown out of proportion ridiculously.
iPhone 4Gs! New intense and exciting technology made of magic that allows you to hold with left hand!
Everything has problems. However when it's related to Apple, it's posted all over news, blogs, and blown out of proportion ridiculously.
Yeah except this is a complete fatal flaw on an expensive-as-fuck phone and Apple (being as rich as they are) are still too lazy to fix the problem and instead are giving everyone a free $.50 case. Do you not see why people would be upset with that?

Ad hominem much?
No.

My Sony Ericsson phone doesn't have any problems.
Well except for the decorative bits falling off, but i throw it around a lot so that's my own damn fault

No.
they do, they even talked about it in their press conference today. they were using cases in real world tests though (to disguise them) which is probably why they didn't notice the problem.
[editline]07:28PM[/editline]
here's their test chamber

but isn't the case/other blockage the cause of the problem? how could they not notice it other than not making calls on a phone? i dont care how much money they invested, how many PhD's some guy has that looked at the phone, or what kind of equipment they used. steve jobs and bill gates didnt have ANY of that when they started.
they are too worried about "apps" than the actual phone part itself.
I like how they went from specifically instructing people in Apple Stores not to give out free iPhone cases to specifically instructing people in Apple Stores to give out free iPhone cases
Fucking bullshit apple you guys cant handle the fact that you shipped out a defective phone fucking Steve Jobs i cant wait till retarded mac fanboys figure out that apple products suck.
Unfortunately the majority of fanboys are set in their ways in a blind faith kind of way a little like how retarded religious people follow blindly.
You know, I ALMOST got one, then I decided on a Droid. Best decision of my life right there.
Haha well done Insulator. Myself... well, I figured since I don't use an awful lot of credit per month to just get the Sony Ericsson Elm (j10i2) for £70 which despite being a feature phone is pretty awesome and does everything that I need it to do including browse the full web with tab functionality courtesy of Opera Mini.
There are thousands of J2ME apps out there and many of them are pretty useful like the one app I use regularly is called Spendometer and helps you budget weekly or monthly by entering transactions as they occur.
Anyway, point is - not everybody needs an Android/iShit. Would be nice if more people considered their actual requirements before blowing their money on shit.
I really fucking hate to think how many tech illiterate people have bought an iWank/Android phone just to keep 'with it' and not even used or understood how to use the features that make them stand out from a regular phone. Goddamn waste, that's what it is.
Your just mad because you can only afford go-phone or VIRGIN mobile. Also, the iPhone is not a piece of shit all phones lose signal if you hold it a certain way.
Yeah lemme go grab my old shitty Virgin mobile phone and hold the antenna like a dumbass.

Oh wait unless you don't know how to use a phone, there's no way you can bridge that antenna(for one reason there's only one), or in any way impair the antenna's performance under normal use.
Even my current phone the HTC Incredible doesn't have problems, even though the antenna is probably covered by my hand during use. That's because the antenna isn't external and there's no way I could possibly bridge the antennas.
Wow it took this long? This was the obvious solution.

Apple never goes for the obvious....They need to be trippy=stupid.
