The hardware definitely has some potential without Apple restricting what you can do on it. A jailbroken ipad, dare I say, may actually be worth the cost.

The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and [b]will probably work on iPad too.[/b]

Apple doesn't set the app price, the developer of the application does. It's the devs trying to make "HD" versions to try to get more money. Also, you can still download the normal ones for the iPhone/iPod Touch, for the same lower price, although I'm guessing the "HD" ones have more features.

And when iPhoneOS 4 comes out with multitasking, it will continue to be fast. Just a question though, what exactly are you going to do with multitasking, besides streaming music on Pandora in the background? It's not like it's two apps cut in half and displayed on the screen, it's still the entire screen filled with one app. And you can already have music in the background, just get songs you like and sync them. It's pretty simple..?

The only app i would get for a ipad is a vnc client and i am happy with that being expensive. also the added art and res in games would be good grounds for more expensive apps

I could see getting an iPad if It was like a professional art tablet and let you import to the PC on the fly... But it isn't, and it's cheaper to get an actual art pad
