If it was out, I wouldn't be so angry.
This system is fine, except for: - They might be pushing sidegrade weapons through it. They'll be "shared" (one person in server owns it = everyone can use it), but Tripwire's already shown massive incompetence when it comes to balance and what constitutes a "sidegrade." They don't have a good history with KF1's weapons packs either. - The game literally is nearing the halfway mark for completion. No one wants this shit right now, we want the rest of the fucking perks/guns/maps/bosses. Their workpace is borderline pathetic from what they've hyped and they have very poor balancing decisions that don't get tweaked for months on end. They actually, originally, thought this fucking thing would be done before New Years'. v:v:v
I hate it when multiplayer games have collectable cosmetics. It tends to ruin whatever visual style the game had going.
hey pal, do you like gambling your money away for virtual goods on some bullshit online auction house? look no further! come on people with obsessive compulsive disorders, give us your money :)))
I spent $3USD and got a $300USD Knife in CS:GO last week..
Let's just wait and see. People are overreacting because of Payday failure and a sense of new content, and jumping to conclusions.
The fact that the game isn't even officially released or in final stages of release, they barely EVER update the game itself with any new content, and it's a ploy to just drag money out of you, jumping on the bandwagon to suck hard earned money out of peoples wallets. I admit it isn't AS bad when it is PURELY cosmetic, but the fact that they even have the sheer tenacity to put such things in, before even asking for feedback about such a decision, or even giving any real free content to the already lacking content as it is for a £30/$40 game that isn't even out of Alpha/Beta or whatever you want to call it is why people are "Over reacting" as you put it. Having the mentality that it isn't bad is exactly what keeps reinforcing into the devs heads that these types of bullshit moves are good ideas, because you get people who say. "Hey it's only cosmetic, it won't ever become anything more than that!" and decide not to speak out against something they aren't happy with, but put up with because it doesn't seriously affect the way a game plays, until it comes later on down the line and suddenly it goes from being purely cosmetic and starts being a lot more. This kind of thing needs to be completely cut out, it is cancerous to gaming. MMO's I see why they do it, especially F2P. But when you sell a game that costs roughly £30-£40 or $40 for a barely fleshed out game with very little content on the whole. And then barely ever update it with any content and leave it husked out, only to finally give an update and have it be god-damn micro-transactions and loot boxes that you gotta pay real money to unlock. Is where the line is way way behind them that it is practically not there. It is immoral to do this, and it is NOT good for the community or the game itself. You put it as overreacting, everyone else can see it for what it is. Hence the anger.
I blame Valve for making this a popular thing to do in multiplayer centric games.
The difference is that two of their games are Free2Play and for the other one (CSGO) it helped boost its popularity as sellings and playernumbers were in decline.
The difference is that two of their games are Free2Play and for the other one (CSGO) it helped boost its popularity as sellings and playernumbers were in decline.
TF2 had transactions before it went f2p
Honestly, the problem isn't the cosmetics themselves, it's the fact that it's being planned / implemented before the game's even complete, that's fucked up.
That's a damn shame. I was planning on buying this game soon, but I guess I can wait a bit longer.
Early access done right; where microtransactions are prioritized over basic playable classes
That's a damn shame. I was planning on buying this game soon, but I guess I can wait a bit longer.
As it stands now it's basically a much more polished Killing Floor 1 with a chunk of missing content. Definitely give it a wait as to not get burnt on it before it's done, as always.
Looks like I still won't be buying this mess.
itt people look for things to cry about
itt consumers who like to get fucked in the ass by game devs talk shit on people who actually see what's going on
Uhh they already did this in Killing Floor 1. It was called paying for multiplayer skins. Only thing that burns my ass in how long they are taking to finish the game. They should have never gone to early access, they just became lazy after that.
itt people look for things to cry about
Oh get over it and quit complaining.
itt people look for things to cry about
As a self confessed fanboy of KF1 i have every right to be annoyed with KF2's development. Because I'm still waiting for the finished product before i actually buy the damn thing. And if it's being delayed to facilitate micro transaction bollocks then yeah i will be pissed off. I actually don't mind cosmetic items, they are the best form of micro transactions because they don't affect gameplay at all and i'd likely buy them myself, but the whole damn argument is that the game isn't fucking finished yet and they are already putting this crap in. But seeing as i havent bought the game and im not in any rush to either, i don't get to be that pissed off, more like a loud sigh.
I spent $3USD and got a $300USD Knife in CS:GO last week..
Congrats? And someone else might meanwhile spend $3000 USD and not get shit. That's how microtransactions like this work, it's gambling plain and simple.
tbh, i don't really see much of a problem with this. Only issue is that this is during EA, i'd get it if they announced they'd have this system to keep updates free for players but it's EA.
Owning KF2 since the first day it was in EA, I don't mind at all that microtransactions are being added to the game. If the money goes towards future development and updates to the game, that's only a good thing. KF1 had awesome support forever, but art assets and new content is going to cost more money when developing for KF2. Their prioritization does suck balls though, this should have been implemented when the game was at or near 1.0 release. Shit, the fact that this update came out before Gunslinger release is worrisome.
Shit, the fact that this update came out before Gunslinger release is worrisome.
This update should come out WITH the gunslinger, 2 maps and, since they can't stop hinting at it, the Patriarch.
It will start will "Only Cosmetic" item drops, then maybe a few minor guns with stat changes and before you know it, they will release user maps and content with a price tag slapped on. They will make it incredibly hard for mod creators to release anything. I totally understand that you are not forced to buy the items or keys or what ever bullshit scheme they use to access the drops, but the game is early access and already adopting F2P-style transactions. Look how PD2 turned out, they explicitly stated many times "NO MICROTRANSACTIONS" and look what has happened, an unbalanced piece of shit grind fest that was once a somewhat original and fun game series.
It is cosmetics, sure. But it is still shitty and I hate that this dumb fucking crate shit is the industry norm now. Thanks Valve. (Or whoever came up with this bullshit first) I'm glad I didn't get sucked in by the hype of KF2.
Thanks TF2 and DOTA. At least the sequel has been in development longer than 3 months, something you can't say about the first game.
Lol are people seriously defending this business model in this thread. Blocking content behind a paywall in an unfinished game doesn't benefit the playerbase in any way. This idea of "you don't have to buy it," is bullshit. It creates a system of haves-and-have-nots, so even if you don't have to buy it, the devs have designed the system to tempt you into buying it anyway.

Remember when games were released fully finished and they didn't need microtransactions? I can tell I have had more fun with CS: Source than with CS:GO, probably because of that shitty market.
Remember when games were released fully finished and they didn't need microtransactions? The skins on the guns dont change their stats in any way. You can totally ignore the market thing with ease.

Even PD: TH was a bit grindy, with it's super limited heist options you'd have to do a lot of the same shit again and again to get the levels needed in each skill tree to actually have options. The microtransactions hardly impact the game, the stat boosts are minimal as fuck and it's co-op anyway so it's not like it ruins the fun for you. Would I prefer they weren't there? Possibly, but I don't think OVK would have implemented a proper skinning system without them and that's pretty attractive if they get the community aspect working. Overkills approach to the balance issues however is pretty damn hilarious. "Fuck it level everything out and ruin shotguns super hard because they were just too damn good".
