Didn't the first Killing Floor have a lot of cosmetic DLC's? I'm guessing this is going to be the same but even more extreme like TF2
All post-release.
$5-8 for character/skin packs.
Before, Valve inspired devs to make more awesome games, now they inspiring cosmetic gambling bullshit. That's sad.
TF2 and CS:GO have the worst communities, only beaten by MOBAs.
The more popular something is the more bad fans will schlog along as well - especially when the subject at hand is competitive or has free access.
So yes, something like TF2 or LoL would have a fair amount of toxic users. At least in TF2 they provide you with the tools to shut down any communication between you and the person in mind.
Remember when games were released fully finished and they didn't need microtransactions? I can tell I have had more fun with CS: Source than with CS:GO, probably because of that shitty market.
I don't know, personally its spiced tf2 up for me
tf2 would have gotten old really, really fast if not for new guns
[editline]25th November 2015[/editline]
but that's tf2, not CS:S and CS:Go
It saddens me that good ideas (KF and RO) that start out great, get run into the ground by idiots.
Not that RO2 got totally run into the ground but it fell far from expectations considering the hype.
Then Ramm says "you just don't get it" and "you guys are entitled" as if that excuses their failure.
Tripwire is a suitable name for them actually considering how much they trip and fall on their face PR wise.
I just don't understand how the same people who made a gem can go onto to just fail again and again.
But I guess people like Peter Molyneux exist.
And of course Ramm is being an arrogant idiot again in an interview, what else is new.
What a shit dev, I think it hurts me even more cause I loved their previous creations. I'm a jaded ex.
Disappointing Tripwire. Wish I didn't buy this game now. It's not finished yet and they're throwing shit like this in. Puts a sour taste in my mouth for its future.
Request a refund, it's obviously not the game you purchased, it now uses the 'fuck you give us money model'.
you'd be a fool to not have seen this coming
You don't have to see it.
They outright stated that they'll do microtransactions because they want to keep pumping out post-release content-updates for free when EA shipped
Eh, going on Tripwire's official forums, it seems like they're at least trying to communicate with people and explaining why they put in such a system. Yoshiro (the community manager for Tripwire) seems to be playing it from an open and neutral perspective, and that's how they should be doing it.
So yeah, while it does suck that it came so early, at least it's only cosmetic differences, and at least Tripwire is actually addressing the community and is actually open for discussion about it. Basically, almost the opposite of Overkill right now.
I'm willing to give Tripwire the benefit of the doubt, but I still don't think I'll be playing KF2 much until it leaves EA.
People are angry because KF1 took barely a year to complete when it transitioned from mod to retail in june of 2008 to march of 2009. While KF2 was announced last year of May 2014 and has had more than double the development time since it's initial announcement and still missing a perk class and is still considered incomplete to this day. It's not even done and they already want to milk potential whales.

if the developers werent so gosh dang hungry and starving and poor, maybe they could complete the game faster. stop being so entitled, buy their "just cosmetics!™" and maybe theyll be kind enough to finish the game for you.
i thought kf was getting out of early access after the first week what the fuck

They pretty much lied to everyone when they said "early access done right." Either that or they are really misinformed about what people want to see in an early access model.
the simple fact that "early access" is called "Early access" as if its some sort of vip lounge is what I find to be the main issue
it should be strictly called "Beta participant program" and you should get the first 4-8 hours of gameplay free, after that you have to pay. maybe every 5$ adds 2.5 hours onto the 'demo ticker'
as it stands early access isn't about customers helping create a game, it's being used as a means to sell an unfinished product.
I've purchased a very few early access titles, and those I did stood on their own as beta games alone.
yeah, "Beta participant program" sounds robotic and stern but it blanently gets the point across. and 8 hours of play time gives you the chance to see if its worth it.
If you can't fund a game AT ALL without using early access, then don't even bother. If you can fund it successfully however like some of these games do then you deserve a medal.
You should be able to see yourself being able to make the game first before you try early access, from my view. Over-confidence is the entire reason so many games are abandoned or over budgeted.

nothing is more frustrating than seeing a genuinely good idea go to shit because the early access DOSH went to a devs head, then the game is permanently in early access limbo.
I would say an early access timer would work too, but it really wouldn't. Games take time and money yes, but the worst games come from under or even over funded studios that are rushed. Just look at ANY AAA studio that pushes games out on a tight date.

Space engineers is early access done right. And so far, I don't see an in game market place for skins anywhere. KHS seems more focused on improving their game, than making a shit ton of money off it (which they did off the early access program. What is their copies count up too? 1, 1.6M? At $20 a pop, thats a significant amount of money.
And theres bugs, but they work to patch them up. Their patch thursdays is done right. Features, bug fixes, improvements, fucking planets. KHS is EA done right. Killing floor 2 sounds like a fucking waste. Why would I want to spend my money on a game, and the rest of the model is throwing more money into it. Sure its just cosmetic for now, but soon it'll be game enhacing objects. So now you gotta throw more money into DLC/Microtransactions to get a better experience. Sure, this is fine but to an extent. Eventually, it just seems like the game should be P2W.
Its just absolutely abhorrent that game studios are restorting to micro transactions to bolster its revenue and they'll say its for support, and improvements down the line. Or future developments, while eating prime rib and lobster. Also, it is proven facts that games are better off with a microtransaction market and being free. Making someone pay for the game, and then tell them if they want more content they'll have to pay up. This is fine if the game is developed and its been on the market for atleast 1 quarter. But hey, early access and the little ol nickle and dime scheme to get more money from "premium skins". What a fucking fine idea. Thank you for being that guy who is so thirsty. This will prevent me from taking interest in their game, and buying it.
What ever materialized out of the Payday 2 market fiasco?

Never understood this. When I purchased Minecraft Alpha I got it extremely cheap because it was unfinished. Now the games start expensive in alpha/beta when they're unfinished and get cheap as they're released.
Nuclear Throne actually addressed that exact point

Name me a competetive game which doesnt. As far as I am concerned, even real life chess players are toxic and obnoxious.

I meant to put "wouldn't" but I typed the sentence poorly and now I said something different, so it just says "yeah it'll work" and then "Here's why it'll never work" in the same paragraph
this is just EMBARRASSING
