What the fuck, the government can't tell us what to eat. This is bullshit.

Well this is the Sensationalist Headlines Section...
this is voluntary:
[release]The “Interagency Working Group on Food Marketed to Children, Preliminary Proposed Nutrition Principles to Guide Industry Self-Regulation Efforts” says it is voluntary, but industry officials say the intent is clear: Do it, or else.[/release]
I hope this is true. Otherwise, the above.
Fuck them, if people want to eat McDonalds every day and get fat and die then let them. Why the fuck should the government care what I eat?
I care what you eat
Well this is the Sensationalist Headlines Section...
There's sensationalist news and then there's blatantly misrepresenting the news. This is the latter.
I like how Penn and Teller talk about fast food on Bullshit.

Oh wow, that is quite terrifying. I wonder if Mingebox just thought it up, quite the coincidence.

I just made them up off the top of my head, not really surprised at least one of them was real, though.
Uhh this is meant as to stop food manufacturers from preying on the psychology of little kids to fill them up with extremely unhealthy food. Surprisingly the complaints people made in this thread about the FDA doing this, were the same complaints when the government stopped tobacco companies from marketing cigarettes as "cool".
I see absolutely no problem with this. Unhealthy products shouldn't be marketed toward impressionable kids.
It's not like these kids are going out to the store and buying food for themselves.
What a fantastically reasonable article, from a source that is clearly not alarmist or biased in any way.
The only source you'll get for this kind of thing is alarmist because the other media groups are complacent, don't care out of fear for their reputation, and are too busy fawning over how awesome the current administration is.
It's not like these kids are going out to the store and buying food for themselves.
It's not like you ever saw their ads and begged your parents for these cereals and girl scout cookies. Or did you?
It should never be up to the government to decide these kinds of things.
It's not like these kids are going out to the store and buying food for themselves.
This.
There's no point at all in advertising for kids because they can't buy shit, it's their parents that do, all they do is make kids go "MOMMY BUY ME THIS SHIT PLEASE TV SAYS IS GOOD", which is just an old capitalism trick, like the "prices ending in 99" trick.
I guess it makes sense why republicans would hate on this.
What fucking kid doesn't beg their parents for the super awesome cereal on TV? If the parents make the decision to buy those foods for their children then so be it. Let the parents be responsible for their own children and fuck off Obama.
DAMN THAT OBAMA
THAT COMMIE BE RUINING OUR MURRICAN WAY OF LIVIN
why can't Glaber's threads just be automatically sent to drop dead

I didn't grow up eating trash.
Girl scout cookies are worth the few extra pounds.

Oh I see, the lame-stream media is too obsessed with having a reputation for shit like accuracy and reason that they won't report on inaccurate, unreasonable bullshit!
I didn't grow up eating trash.
I don't think you read the article
It’s not just the usual suspected foods that are being targeted, such a thin mint cookies sold by scouts or M&Ms and Snickers, which sponsor cars in the Sprint Cup, but pretty much everything on a restaurant menu.
what this little bit here basicly means, is that even your healthy food is a target too.
Be it the junk of a Mc Donald's cheeseburger, or the corn on the cob at a old Country Buffet. It's all a target.
Also, I hope you are not an ESPN watcher.
It’s not just the food industry that will be impacted. Hundreds of television shows that depend on the advertising revenue, such as the Nickelodeon Channel, ESPN, and programs including "American Idol" will be affected, critics of the proposal say—at a cost of $5.8 trillion in marketing expenditures that support up to 20 million American jobs.
Still don't care, sorry.
Mmm, Bland-Flakes.
I mean come on, this is just lazy-ass parents who think the government should do everything for them, including looking out for what their kids eat.
still, article's biased as shit
Yeah, parents are doing an excellent job of making wise decisions for their children...

These kinds of restrictions have been in place for cigarettes for decades for the same reasons; marketing will convince people to make poor choices.
We like to tell ourselves that our personal health is our own business and only has an impact on our own lives; this simply isn't true. Obesity, smoking, poor general health, lack of vaccinations, etc all have a significant negative economic impact on society.
I know it's par for the course to just assume the government is some tyrannical monstrosity that intends to steal our freedoms, but it's investigating an issue before jumping to such conclusions.
I'm okay with this

I always hated girl scout cookies and I was never much of a cereal guy.

I like my breakfast warm, so I had a bagel or pancakes for breakfast.
How about they invest in better educating people on how to eat better, and teaching adults how to say no when their kids want to eat deep fried shit.
How about they invest in better educating people on how to eat better
They have been doing this, It can't compete with the billions of dollars that go into advertisements every single day.
