I work in engine development, rev limiters won't stop an engine blowing up if it's left on the limiter for too long. Trust me on that one.
It's going to take some time, and you'll most likely either crash, or get the car to a halt before that happens.
Even electronic gearboxes will let you drop into neutral, "safety feature"
Not the one used by Toyota, if the car is driving faster then 50mph (AFAIK) :geno:
Makes no sense.

What the hell, who's idea was that for a gearbox?
I sense a japanese plot to destroy the western world through unavoidable high speed crashes.

They're aiming primarily for the American's.
They've bought the most Priuses, and other Toyota's affected by this problem with Automatic transmissions.
Enjoy your motor exploding and POTENTIALLY sending shrapnel your way. (Although honestly I might consider this as an option if it ever happens to me)
your engine WILL blown, but it WON'T EVER SEND SHRAPNEL IN ANY DIRECTION EXEPT IN THE CYLINDERS ITSELF.
you guys need a megathread about engine
my favorite thing about these accelerator bugs, is that even if your car is speeding uncontrollably, you can just simply turn the key and shut the car off.
You have no idea what you are talking about and are giving terrible advice.
And as expected, he looks like this.
So wait, if he made it up, then how did his pads and rotors get so worn down that they needed to be replaced before they could test the car? And wouldn't the cop following him notice if his brake lights were on or not? This story is bizarre.
Well obviously he could have simply gone of somewhere in the desert and accelerated/braked a bunch of times. Besides that, wouldn't the officer have noticed the man's smoking brakes?

How is turning off your car when its accelerating out of control terrible advice? You don't have power brakes or steering, but you can still control the car.
Sikes said he called 911 for help as he was traveling in excess of 90 mph on a winding, hilly portion of the highway. He said dispatchers tried to talk him through ways to stop the car, but nothing helped.
I'm certain someone advised him to remove the key, right? And is it even possible for that to not work?

It helps if you read the thread.

Ugh.
Stop driving.

You need to do engine testing before writing such things.
If an engine blows, it generally throws a rod through the side of the block. Luckily there is usually enough crap in the way to stop it getting through into the cab. The bulkhead infront of the cab would provide enough protection
