It looks like something I'd find in another sort of pack...

Officially: Shoulder-Pork Ham.
Unofficially: Stuff Posing As Meat.
Eh, probably the same meat used for hot dogs and shit, y'know, bone meal, chicken carcasses, the scrapings off the abattoir floor and other garbage
I'm sorry, I've inherited my hatred of SPAM from my WWII British ancestors.
I'd rather eat that than regular spam, that's for sure.
Hey, don't knock spam. That shit saved Europe
Spam isn't that bad.
Fry it up, spread some honey mustard over it and stick it between two slices of bread or toast, and you've got yourself a kickass sandwich.
It's a hell of a lot better than those thin, cold and greasy slices of meat that you see on most sandwiches.
it looks like soylent red
I only ever liked Spam when it was fried, but I guess I'll give these a shot.
Spam can be eaten out of a can but it's kinda gross that way. If you cook it, it's pretty great. It really can replace a variety of things as mentioned above.
I feel like the sodium content is through the roof

You are correct
I cant believe people can dis spam. Do you even know the historical significance of this caned ham? better yet, have you ever tried fried spam?
Maybe its because of where I live, but everyone has at least 3 flavors of spam in their kitchen; bacon being the most common.

It's a pork sausage that's in a can instead of sausage casing. It doesn't taste weird at all.
Obviously it's cured pork instead of the raw pork you'd typically find in a sausage, that's why it's shelf stable and salty, but just tastes like pork.

Uncooked, it tastes kind of weird. Not bad, but weird.
Cooked, it tastes great. Spam sandwiches are awesome.
Fried spam and rice best way.
Hawaiian food makes extensive use of spam
Hawaiian food makes extensive use of spam
Pretty much all the pacific islands do.
I microwaved Spam once. The entire kitchen reeked of it, and anything that I microwaved afterwards was imbued with a spammy flavour, even after I cleaned the microwave.
Never again.
In Hawaii I've eaten a lot of spam. A common working mans breakfast is a roadside spam and eggs on rice. It's also a common topping on Hawaiian Saimin noodle soups which are like amazing suped up Ramen.

If you want tiny meat snacks that you can microwave, why don't you just buy pre-cooked frozen meatballs?
This is making me want to pick up a tin of spam after work, but I can't do high sodium stuff regularly without getting a killer migraine. This sucks.

They have a low sodium version. I assume that just means 75% of the can is made up of salt.
I never really had spam until I dated a Filipino
This is 200% accurate

Spam is a greasy slimy jell like meat substitute that somehow manages to taste great.

How long did you nuke it for? On my microwave. 20-30 seconds on high is enough, depending on how thick your slices are. I put my slices in a tall coffee mug, then cover it with a piece of paper towel. The mug catches all the fat(which I then pour back over the spam like gravy) and the paper towel keeps the steam and aroma from permeating the microwave. Of course cooking it in a pan is best, cause you can sear it and get that Maillard effect going.

You don't drink enough water.

except its pork shoulder... The "slime" is a natural gelatin that forms in the cooking process.
