Yep, nobody should be allowed to make music if they're not bought up by a pre-existing big record label, and nobody who isn't already a big-name artist is creative enough to produce music, just ban it all. There is absolutely no value in amateur music production whatsoever. There is no future in it. Everyone who engages in it is a talentless hack. Why would anyone want to bother trying to be creative anyway?
I'm just tired of hearing shitty, generic computer music
When people started taking Blank Banshee seriously, I checked out from that entire subculture
Too. Many. Computer. Musicians.

This just in, if it's made with a computer, it's bad! All those damn talentless kids and their stupid beep-boop dubsteps, if it's not my kind of music then it's just totally worthless, I say.

SoundCloud also has many many live musicians that play real instruments or who are professional electronic artists that have either small labels or are running solo. It's pretty amazing what can be found beneath the shitty mashup shell that every site works with.

I've been producing in FL Studio going on 7 years now, so no, I don't feel that way at all. I predict that electronic music is about to fall out of the mainstream, though. People are just getting tired of EDM. I'm sorry, but it's the truth.

This is a fair point -- but those people would be the exception to the rule.

hey
uh idk if you realized yet
but uhhh
soundcloud isn't just filled with amateurs and EDM music
Let it die, and let amateur music production die with it
Nobody cares about your copy paste EDM project
That's quite a narrow-minded way of looking at this situation, there's all sorts of music produced on Soundcloud that have nothing to do with EDM. If a site like this goes under, we're going to lose a lot of content that doesn't deserve to be removed because of a financial fuckup. I get that you want less computer generated music, but you're looking at this like many people on the internet look at Tumblr, they only like focusing on the negative aspects that they don't agree with. Yet in the end, it really all comes down to the sections you're actually focusing on, you should really take the time to explore the site to see what it actually has to offer rather than accept it's death and say good riddance.

You do know you can just try other genres if you're so sick of "generic computer music".

You're right.
All these sites are built to fucking bank off of creators, though. I'm disappointed content creators do not have a home that doesn't force them to sell out anymore.
Maybe I feel like SoundCloud going down would open a spot for a potentially better service to open up.

Maybe, (hopefully?) but it just means that site will eventually go down too because the root of the problem is not tackled.

You came into MGG, posted one artistically and technically vapid snippet, then got pissed when people critiqued it. You're no different than the kids sending 8 bar loops to promoters.

Electronic music is a valid art form. That's not what I'm trying to argue.
stuff
I think people are overreacting to what I am saying here.
I love electronic music. Boards of Canada, I would even venture to say are geniuses.
But SoundCloud is shit. A lot of the music on it is shit, including my own. It's time for a new platform.
The interface is another big reason I dislike it. It feels clunky and unintuitive.

you're going to see a LOT more people overreact to what you're saying.
I'd like to try and keep it semi serious by saying that soundcloud is simply a different way to find music. You're welcome to simply not use it if you don't like it, there's plenty of worse alternatives out there you know that people are going to flock to, and better. A new platform doesn't mean its a better platform.
Just because a new platform arises doesn't mean its a better platform at all. I also like to use bandcamp but it's not nearly as easy to find good musicians as soundcloud is for me. For me, I pretty much find them through just going through recommendations / other means. That's me though.
that's not to say they haven't lost money for no reason. Clearly they don't know how to run a business after running out of money that badly.
He does this everywhere. Let me tell you the wonders of the PDP cycle:
1. Post sweeping broad+asinine statement in a thread
2. Get indignant when called out about said statement
3. Try to rebut said statement by checking profile comments, post-stalking, or mocking trite shit (i.e post count)
4. get banned
5. repeat
I dislike his attitude, because he uses his position in his interests to bring others down. I'm shit at music, tbh, but I write articles to help people learn more (and because I get paid) plus spend tons of time helping out in production subreddits. I do this because its more fun to share an interest and help others than it is to make pointless attacks (plus I learn when teaching too).
So instead of mocking said wubstep kiddos how 'bout you put up or shut up, PDP
(ofc he's been banned lol)
pdp is a troll, don't feed the troll
Archive Team is looking into saving it, unfortunately they've already ruled out saving the entirety of it.
SoundCloud is pretty cool, but sometimes it can be downright annoying to use.
does anyone know how to mass download all my likes/reposts?
i cannot let all the music i loved die
I put all of the music i make on my Soundcloud.. I'm gonna be uploading my RPM album on there soon. It's really the only place to put your music other than bandcamp or dicking around with YouTube
While I don't care for my three audio shitposts on there, I definitely need to see if the songs I really liked could be downloaded.
Well, that pretty much sucks, had synthwave tracks that i was working on, and want to upload them. i always use soundcloud to share my created tracks. Now i'am just going to hope it wont be forced to close.
If it does close down, really hoping someone comes through with an alternative
If it does close down, really hoping someone comes through with an alternative
There's plenty of alternatives already, though. They're just not as popular as Soundcloud.
man this sucks. It doesn't really affect me in terms of uploading my music, as all my tracks tend to be at least 30 minutes long which isn't really suited to the soundcloud model, but I keep track of 90% of my grime singles through the site
Soundcloud is not going down, trust me. They invested in themselves (expansion) too much, this is why they are losing money currently.
