When disgraced CEOs are fired from major companies, they typically get a few million dollars in cash or stock to cushion the blow. Groupon's Andrew Mason will take home a severance package of $378.36
i assume he also gets a 5 dollars off any 30 dollar meal at dennys groupon
At first I was sad for him, but then
He won't be leaving as a pauper, though. Mason holds nearly 47 million shares of Groupon, worth about $213 million at Thursday's closing price.
what did he do

Basically groupon is going down the drain hard.
Good. Fuck groupons, they take away money from businesses. At the oil change shop I work at, a groupon is pretty much a free oil change for the customer. They pay 2-3 dollars in taxes and thats it

Because the customers would come to your oil change shop beforehand, right?
I'm guessing not.

Then why did your business sign up for groupon.

You do realize that people pay for groupons, which in turn some goes back to the business and attracts customers? Not to mention the fact that its a low percentage of people that actually use coupons/gift cards/groupons.

Uh, your own company asked groupon to set up those discounts for them.

You guys remember when this guy turned down google's 6 billion dollar offer to buy groupon?
So is the groupon fad over then?

Erm you clearly do not understand how it works. Lots of money passes hands between Groupon and the company offering a service.
Actually theres many stories out there how Groupon doesn't end up helping business at all, since all that happens is that customers are attracted to your business via groupon and then never come back (even if the service and everything was great) because the clientele of Groupon by and large only ever do things on a discount or via a groupon
So what happens is that buisnesses lose a lot of money to do the groupon deals (they don't get enough back to really cover the costs of the groupon from Groupon itself, because the idea is that its a form of "advertising" you spend to try and get more people interested in your business via the Groupon), but they don't actually get that many legitimate customers from Groupon to come back since the groupon users will only ever do things via groupon.

your oil shop opted to use groupon its not groupons fault
Groupon has problems with their acceptance process too. As in, they don't review companies that apply for Groupon deals. My mom got a "full house vent cleaning" package for $49.99, and I did some research, the company had 3 different websites and they had an F rating on the BBB under yet another business name. Local news company even did a special about vent cleaning deals recently and the same guys were shown to charge upwards $2500 for a vent cleaning job when the Groupon stated it was a full house clean for $49.99 no questions asked, no fine print, nada.
good, lets do this to a few more of them
That'll teach him for sending me these daily emails...and when I unsubscribed, I still get the emails
My lord
