That's really exactly what it is. Its a new form of racism. Anyone who gets augmented is "less-human" (by their own words) and beneath "pure humans" (also their own words). And you've got people who think that they should be taken out (Mr. EMP Fields). Its just a budding form of bigotry. We're getting to see it right in front of our eyes.
If you're so willing to trade your functioning limbs for metallic shells, why are you even born with them?
Holy fuck do you realize how goddamned dumb that argument is? Did you think before posting this? [editline]26th July 2013[/editline]
I'm sorry that video games did this to you.
It has nothing to do with video games, please be just a little more condescending.
The fear of augmentation/bionics/cybernetics is nothing more than paranoia and an idiotic belief in a fictitious concept of human "purity" that has never existed and is more dangerous than any augmentation could ever be. You've already got people like Joazzz saying anyone who would get augmented is a "Species traitor" and that he would start studying "emp fields" like he's going to use them to take out anyone augmented. I mean, shit, that kind of "Species Traitor" stuff is literally the exact same language that racists use when describing interracial marriage. Calling them "Race Traitors".

That's really exactly what it is. Its a new form of racism.
Did you just fucking say that? I seriously, seriously doubt you can get any more idiotic.
That's exactly what it is and you damn well know it. Its the exact same line of reasoning, the exact same language. Its identical in every fucking way. You've got this fucked up notion of "purity" and see anyone else and beneath you. That's exactly what it is.
Did you just fucking say that? I seriously, seriously doubt you can get any more idiotic.
It's the exact same thing mate. Black people shouldn't be allowed jobs because they're black, we should hang them because their black. Augmented people shouldn't be allowed to take jobs from Pure Humans, we need those jobs, frankly we should kill them, that's why I study ~xXEmPsXx~ Yeah mate, totally different, who could possibly see the parallels.
Because people can't grow mechanical arms? What kind of retarded question is that?

Holy fuck do you realize how goddamned dumb that argument is? Did you think before posting this?
Then why aren't you just built in a factory instead of being birthed from a human being?
Then why aren't you just built in a factory instead of being birthed from a human being?
Because we're biological organisms, that somewhat surpisingly aren't made of growing metal.
Then why aren't you just built in a factory instead of being birthed from a human being?
This isn't an argument. Seriously, you lost the fight already and you know it, and now you're just spouting shit as your ship sinks in a last desperate attempt to hold on to anything.
It's like you can't see the strong philosophical and ethical questions with chopping your limbs off. You just see: "oh I can lift heavier things by trading my arm for a robotic arm," and then berate anyone who says otherwise.
Meanwhile you are calling everyone who disagrees with augmentation a luddite bigot in the making, and literally equating them to racists based on a few words by someone on the internet.
Because that's what it is. Like, literally what it is. By its very concept. In every possible way. You have to be seriously retarded to think Joazz was dead serious with his remark about EMP fields, but here you are envisioning public lynchings and segregation. Are you aware of what a ridiculous extent of strawmanning you are doing right now? It's off the fucking charts, people!

Assuming both the arm are equally viable for day to day use with absolutely no functional differences, why would the human arm be superior simply through the fact that it is human?

If he didn't want it taken seriously, he shouldn't have said it to begin with.
if the bionic limbs function better then why not? it's not like i'd throw all my money away to buy it, but i'd probably buy it like i'd buy a new, expensive computer component it really depends on what uses the bionic limbs offer. if they offer features which makes everday life easier, like idk, built in kitchen equipment, then it would be something i'd consider if it's just to become stronger then i wouldn't chop off a perfectly good limb since it would have no use over my biological limb
This isn't an argument. Seriously, you lost the fight already and you know it, and now you're just spouting shit as your ship sinks in a last desperate attempt to hold on to anything.
It's not an argument because you're refusing to properly refute it and just call me an idiot instead.
Because that's what it is. Like, literally what it is. By its very concept. In every possible way.
Please come back to me when you have more evidence than a few words of questionable severity someone said on a forum on the internet, and when you deflate your gigantic sense of superiority a bit.
It's not an argument because you're refusing to properly refute it and just call me an idiot instead.
Check my last post then. Why is a human arm better than a robotic arm that has the exact same functionality.
Please come back to me when you have more evidence than a few words of questionable severity someone said on a forum on the internet, and when you deflate your gigantic sense of superiority a bit.
So the exact things they say should not be considered a talking point when we are talking about them? That's real smart, pal.

It's not the exact same fucking thing. They're orders of magnitude away. Stop living in a fantasy world.

Also, you guys are silly if you think a cybernetic limb (without a ridiculous amount of self-repairing nanobots to maintain it 24/7, that one could work) would be "more durable" than an actual biological one. Sure, it will probably weather bigger blows and all that stuff, but in the end, you'd have to replace it because it'd get old and worn. Knowing the way consumer electronics work, it'd be probably manufactured with the express intent that you'll have to replace it (for lots of dosh) every now and then from all the wear and tear. Meanwhile, the biological body does literal self-repair! Sure it's slow and, well, limited, but fleshy limbs work for decades :v:

You are already literally doing that. Why do you deserve to be treated differently? Are you special? Are you superior to other human beings?
Fleshy limbs are also subject to wear and tear, and when they break it's not quite as simple as removing it and plugging in a new one.
you can lose a limb if it gets infected and dies or if someone chops it off if a wire or two breaks in a mechanical arm you'll most likely have to pay your ass off to repair it again
Why is a human arm innately better than a robotic one? Assuming both the arm are equally viable for day to day use with absolutely no functional differences, why would the human arm be superior simply through the fact that it is human?
This is a better way to refute rather than just call me a luddite. It's not so much that the human arm is better but it's more that you're willing to cut your functioning arms and legs off to replace it, like a computer part someone said. If you don't want your body parts, then why are you even born human? You're a living tool - a robot - and you'll be used like one until you're deactivated without any resistance.

But its not like a human limb is immune to damage or wearing out. Natural healing can only do so much before one has to get surgery to repair the damage. The build quality of future augmentations is hard to debate though because we haven't reached or neared that point. By the time they become viable for consumer usage, they very well could be modular and easy to replace. As if just popping off the old one and popping on a new one. We can only speculate as to how that might work because we haven't gotten close enough to that point yet.
Check my last post then.
Thinking takes longer to post than just calling someone an idiot.
