He was given anonymity for the murder but even so people are scumbags you can't be rehabilitated if people just shit on you when your released. I don't know the details because I'm not interested but in my town a guy and his family's live was ruined by some shithead "pedophile" hunter and afaik he hadn't even been arrested but people were up in arms on FB

He was given anonymity since he was 10 years old when he committed the crimes against James Bulger - and in order to preserve his right to a private life after rehabilitation he was granted a new identity and a super injunction to prevent people from revealing this new identity. Why should a paedophile be given anonymity you ask? Well, first of all the time line is incorrect. The first allegations of him being a paedophile came a full 9 years after the murder of James. So a paedophile wasn't given anonymity - A 10 year old boy was given anonymity. A quote from 2001 reveals: "The injunction was granted because there was a real and strong possibility that their lives would be at risk if their identities became known". Does that sufficiently answer you're question? I got all of this from 15 minutes of googling around.

I know opinions here on this sort of thing tend to be heavily split, but I would not feel bad if mob justice were inflicted on him especially after re offending with child pornography.

A Paedophile isn't being given anonymity, a person whose life is currently endangered is. I don't like it either, but it's not like they are being given protection because people like them deserve it, it's simply because there are laws against assaulting or killing people and if lots of people want to kill or assault a person they need to be protected by these laws no matter who they are.
