Then why do they evade it so much?
Who knows, maybe they need to read a little something called "The Gospel of Wealth".
The effective tax rate for the rich is around 20 some percent. They are purposely using loopholes to cut the taxes they pay in half. This isn't just oil tycoons, this is just about every rich dude.
When you say rich, I assume you're talking about corporate billionaires who own own an umbrella corporation that covers a dozen other corporations. When I talk rich, I'm talking about the upper class that make more than $150,000 a year.

I'm talking millionaires.

20%???
I'm paying 54% and I barely make 60k/year.

Ahahahaha, everyone in Norway pays a tax rate of at least 30% and people earning more than 500 000 NOK (about 90 000 US dollars) have to pay 50% in taxes.
I really have to laugh at the rich Americans who think they are paying too much taxes already.
Selfishness at its best. What a huge misinterpretation of liberalism - it's supposed to be about making society revolve around money and earn your money by deserving it, not about some sort of free-for-all battle where fraud and immorality is the only way to win.
Fix the taxes first, then give a go with proper healthcare again. Oh yeah and cut the fucking military already.
Well I don't like this one bit.

The House just shot down the jobs plan in quick order, and this idea is heading for the same fate.
Damn, the poor guy's already starting to look old.

What trying to be bipartisan in a country where the two parties never agree to anything useful will do to you.
Well I don't like this one bit.
Won't be able to buy yourself titles anymore if you have to start paying taxes huh
Oh no! HOW COULD THEY! Those POOR rich people!
Just saw this on NY Times:
Republicans Call Obama’s Tax Plan ‘Class Warfare’
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/19/us/politics/republicans-call-obamas-tax-plan-class-warfare.html?_r=1&hp
I hate how reasonable things like raising taxes on the wealthiest (which will probably be a minor inconvenience for them) automatically gets spun into "he's raising taxes during a recession holy shit what an asshole!"
How dare rich people actually pay taxes, doesn't everyone know they're job creators?! Rich people are knocking down my door right now asking if I want a job, I have to get them to go away with caviar.

whoo whoo the stupid train is arriving in the station
The cynic in me thinks this is just hollow rhetoric that Obama is using in a campaign year to help energize his base and win re-election.
it can't be both?
whoo whoo the stupid train is arriving in the station
The Republicans are right, this is part of an ongoing class war. Someone is now fighting on the side of the lower and working classes against the upper classes.

even calling it a class war in the first place is retarded, there's no need to feed into the GOP's insanity by going along with it
even calling it a class war in the first place is retarded, there's no need to feed into the GOP's insanity by going along with it
What is it then? There is a constant struggle between the classes, it's a class war.
If there was a class war the rich already won it
If there was a class war the rich already won it
They are certainly winning.

That has to be the most simplistic reasoning I've heard in a long time.
I don't get along with my neighbor, haven't done so for 20 years, are we automatically at war?
Feeding in to the crazy GOP bullshit that they call "reasonable speech" is like saying "It's okay, the aliens will come get you" to a person in a mental asylum.
You don't just approve of delusions in mentally retarded people, you point them out to be wrong.
This is the first time I've ever been interested in politics, hearing this. If they make so much money, why shouldn't they be taxed a little more? Compared to the people who are struggling to get by, this bill seems necessary.
I used to have no idea who I'd vote for next year. I'm starting to like Obama more as time goes on.

Trickle down fantasy, job creators, blablabla.
Bottom line: Rich people want to keep their money and don't see the need in helping poorer people.
Fix the taxes first, then give a go with proper healthcare again. Oh yeah and cut the fucking military already.
Unfortunately none of these things will fix the unemployment issue.
In fact if you cut out privatized health care and parts of the military, you would be taking even more jobs away.
