I'm so confused on why ANYONE would be against this(except for the super greedy type of rich people)
I'm so confused on why ANYONE would be against this(except for the super greedy type of rich people)
You would be surprised how fast one can be corrupted by both money and liberalism. A lot of people don't realize money stops being ultra-precious when they come in solid gold buckets to you, and losing a little part of it to help the poor and the less wealthy isn't such a big deal. They just see themselves for the most part as the great nobles no one should touch or look in the eye, let alone ask any sort of help from them. And then there's Harrison Ford who owns a helicopter and uses it totally free of charge to go save lost/hurt people in forests and mountains without asking for any sort of paying in return.
We're going through a similar issue here in the UK right now: in 2009 we introduced a temporary 50% tax rate for the ultra-rich to help with the deficit and now there are some saying we should get rid of it, because the rich just use tax havens and stuff to get around it. Instead, the government just recently announced it's going after the tax-evading pricks
As long as this doesn't cripple people I don't see the problem. If it does however I'm against this.
I'm pretty sure you can live without working with the rest of your life with a single million dollars, given you don't plan on carelessly wasting it.
As long as this doesn't cripple people I don't see the problem. If it does however I'm against this.
How could you cripple someone who has millions of dollars? Even if you take 90% of it, a millionaire would still be bringing in $100,000 per yer a the very minimum. [editline]19th September 2011[/editline]
Yeah if you live at the minimum standard of living.
This is a tax on income, not savings. You're only affected if you make 1 million dollars in salary/capital gains in 12 months.
Yeah if you live at the minimum standard of living.
Or, you know, avoid buying a luxury mansion with 300 rooms you will never put a foot in and a private jet you will use twice in your life.
What is it then? There is a constant struggle between the classes, it's a class war.
Class struggle is strictly a communist/marxist term indicating rebellion of the proletariat against the bourgeoisie. Basically, it includes strikes, protests, marches and other extra-parliamentary means, and not democratical means like raising taxes, so calling it a class struggle is blowing it out of perspective.
Hopefully some of the taxing will go to covering the infamous student loans that ruins a lot of people's lives aswell. True, they need to help the lower class. But they also need to help the middle class whom were able to "afford" higher education - but are in crazy debt due to it - not to mention that that was the government's fault to begin with.
Obama knows what he's doing. Probably the best president we've had in 3 decades or more.
Yes he does, he's fucking the country over a little more day after day by sucking the republicans' dicks and knows it. He's weak and lacks a spine.
Yes he does, he's fucking the country over a little more day after day by sucking the republicans' dicks and knows it. He's weak and lacks a spine.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: A man who may want to good things but lacks the force to get all of them done is infinitely better than one who wants to do bad things and can put enough force behind it to get them all done. Obviously this is describing it in very basic terms, but that's the gist. Democrats tend to do more good things, like properly recognizing gay marriage, providing for the poor, and in the past when "Republican Liberals" ended slavery and helped women get the right to vote.
