at least they're not lobbying billions into trying to legalize rape or whatever the fuck most major corporations do these days
I think I'd kind of prefer if corporations tended to stay out of politics.
But since so many corporation are already so invested in politics, does it really hurt to have one more with a more liberal bias?
Now watch as every homophobe say they'll never use Google again because of this.

Sure, there's plenty of other search engines they could use. Like Lycos! Remember Lycos? And Dogpile! Ahh, good times.

Well you got Exxon, Sachs, Halliburton, Boeing and many more alongside pretty much all banks lobbying with a fiscal conservative bias so you might as well have one company with a socially liberal bias. Preferably no corporations get involved in politics, but the reality is that just won't happen.

This, Corporations are pretty much the government

I can hear it now.
"Alright, family, no more use of google! They support the gays now! Bing only."
"But mom, Bill Gates donated money for the gays.."
"Alright, I guess it's Yahoo."
"But mom, yahoo answers community mostly supports gay marriage."
"NO FUCKING INTERNET FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY GOOD JOB SON"

It's fan-fuckin-tastic, it's gonna start snowballing soon. :v:

What is this like really?
I've seen it everywhere and I'm finally asking.

Good.
If they stayed off the Internet then they'll have effectively removed any voice they had. We want that.
Well, except Africa and eastern europe/asia.
South Africa legalized it in 2006. And there are countries in Asia that are going forward with it. It's legal in many countries there, even if there's no legal recognition of same-sex relationships. Especially in Japan where it really doesn't have a big history of hostility towards LGBT people.
Same with Eastern Europe, it varies from country to country.
This raises my spirits a bit.
Good on Google for making the world a little brighter.

It's the fox news article describing thing. The community chooses funny, helpful, ect. Of course it's fox news and they would think this type of thing is scary.
(actually it's on fox nation to be exact http://nation.foxnews.com/)
So much progress for the LGBT rights movement this year, holy shit
The Netherlands: I legalised gay marriage before it was cool.
Let's hope this actually works, I would hate for something like this to just become forgotten.

It's Google. When they support something or make something they throw it anywhere they can and try and get publicity even if a large group of people hate it/don't use it/want it.
For example, Google+.

Well, if ALL corporations stayed out of politics - but they don't. And it isn't like this is going to lower Google's taxes (Otherwise the laws are pretty fucked up) or make their CEO president.

No. No way. No fucking way.
I refuse to believe people can be this close-minded and flat out stupid.

I do not have any problem with your theory
People who are against gay marriage have the worst arguments, it's mostly about politics, religion or self belief
Really isn't that hard to win an argument with a homophobe/person who doesn't like gay rights
I think I'd kind of prefer if corporations tended to stay out of politics.
Ideally, but since the US accepted that Corporations are allowed to be in politics (and have since become one of the biggest parts of it), the least we can hope for is that some of them use that influence for good.

Guess they gotta start using ask.com :v:
I think I'd kind of prefer if corporations tended to stay out of politics.
So would I, but barring the ability to actually remove them and given the overwhelming presence of conservative ones in politics, I'm not going to complain about google getting involved.
..And now we wait for Google to be blocked in most of the Middle East.
Yes! I love how much Google supports LGBT rights. As part of the "It gets better" campaign they uploaded a video of a bunch of their successful gay employees talking about their experiences. Other companies like Microsoft and Pixar did the same thing, but now it seems that Google has taken its support a step further. Nice!
Whyyyyy are they not starting in the US? The only reason I can think they'd start in Poland and Singapore is to start small and work their way up.
Also yeah, if they can start in small nations where the likelihood of getting it legalized is higher, it can build up momentum and help increase pressure on other nations.

Heh, will be an interesting thing to see.
Personally, I dont think big cooperations like Google should be getting involved in the policies and affairs of other countries. Kind of a arrogant move there, irrespective of the cause being pursued.

How do you define 'other countries' for something as multinational as Google?
corporations not getting involved in politics only works when everyone agrees not to. problem is that once that happens, one corporation can defect and support policy X to their advantage. at this point there's no benefit to cooperating for the other corporations so they'll all defect and support their favorite political platforms too. there's no benefit to be gained by google from abstaining from supporting lgbt rights in this situation, all else kept equal.
