Pepper;40734941']Why the fuck are we sinking money into these?
Well the HUDs are pretty important. The importance of first-shot-off-boresight capabilities win air battles.
Why are we even sinking this much money into it? Everyone knows that it's the Infantry that wins wars.
Have you read anything about WW2, what Allied strategic bombing did to the German war effort, or what about the Enola Gay? How about carpet bombing and napalm strikes in Vietnam? What about the precision air strikes during Desert Storm? Or let's expand to other aircraft besides bombers- attack helicopters cannot operate in areas where air superiority hasn't been achieved, transport helicopters can't move troops if they're under attack by enemy jets, AC-130s, reconnaissance aircraft, and ground attack jets can't do a thing if they're under threat from A2A missiles. Aircraft are an absolutely essential component of the modern battlefield, and the role of aircraft starts and ends with air superiority. No air superiority, no air support.
Why are we even sinking this much money into it? Everyone knows that it's the Infantry that wins wars.
try to name a war that was won purely by infantry and infantry alone.
What the fuck is that?
The helmet looks like it belongs on a suit of powered armor.
What the fuck is that?
Damn this thread is full of a bunch of fuckin drama queens That's the most advanced helmet in the world. It projects the HUD directly into the pilot's eye. Like what Google Glass does, only they developed it years ago. On top of that the entire system stitches together images from cameras positioned all over the plane, meaning the pilot can look down at his lap and his HUD will project what's actually there, as if the plane wasn't in the way. It's a challenge in itself because stitching together video is difficult, on top of the fact that if you fuck it up even a little bit, the pilot's mind is going to notice it and the pilot starts feeling disoriented. Who gives a fuck what the helmet looks like.
Why are we even sinking this much money into it? Everyone knows that it's the Infantry that wins wars.
And the infantry is fucked when they have shit raining down on them on a day to day basis
Done.
Emus had air support
Way to cite a war from 1932. You might as well cite the civil war while you're at it.
Wow, did you even read the page a little? Getting defensive over a clearly tongue in cheek reference to fighting emus?
wow i didnt know facepunch had so many avionics engineers
Wow, did you even read the page a little? Getting defensive over a clearly tongue in cheek reference to fighting emus?
Haha, my b I only glanced at the date
The helmet looks like it belongs on a suit of powered armor.
Make fun of it all you want but that helmet is one of the most advanced pieces of technology on the planet. It's some shit straight out of science fiction, X-wing pilots didn't have this kind of tech man. See how the pilots eyes are lit up like that? Thats because the hud follows the pilots eyes wherever he looks with them. If he stares menacingly enough at an enemy fighter, he'll have the capability to lock onto it with an Air-2-air and kill that SOB by STARING AT IT. At least, thats what it's supposed to be doing. That helmet might look silly but it's going to have a massive impact on modern air combat.
And the infantry is fucked when they have shit raining down on them on a day to day basis
Artillery is the King of Warfare. Infantry is the Queen of Battle. It is well known what the King does to the Queen.
Artillery is the King of Warfare. Infantry is the Queen of Battle. It is well known what the King does to the Queen.
Well, in chess, the queen is the go-to girl when you want to see your opponent cry like a little bitch
Well, in chess, the queen is the go-to girl when you want to see your opponent cry like a little bitch
But you still lose if you don't have a king.
Jesus flipturnning fucking Christ what are they trying to do with the HUD?
Allow the pilot to see in every direction, unrestricted by the presence of the aircraft itself. Really thought they had this thing sorted though, jeeze.

I actually find it to be really cool.
Why are you people getting so fucking uptight, I wasn't even insulting it. I actually find it to be really cool.
because people are making fun of literally the coolest thing ever made.
because people are making fun of literally the coolest thing ever made.
Doesn't mean you have to start crying about it, I'm sure everyone else actually likes how advanced it is.
This thread is full of tears.
I think that helmet actually looks pretty awesome.
The helmet looks like it belongs on a suit of powered armor.
Reminds me of this

Green light in your eyes. wont it blind you/bother you than a normal vision without them
Green light in your eyes. wont it blind you/bother you than a normal vision without them
I think one of the most advanced pieces of equipment on the planet would've addressed that issue.
The technology for HMS is 28 years old, how can it be so hard to make it right?
