I never implied it was limited to the west, just that we don't always have the empirical evidence to back up these things as world-wide phenomenons; the majority of research is performed in the west and does not always keep the intercultural differences and variations between the samples they use (of which the /VAST/ majority are western) and the actual Earth they're generalizing their results to in mind.
