If someone is very poor it would be easy to manipulate them into a sexual relationship with money, this would be true if they were 15 or if they were 25, if a person was very stupid or just naive this would also be true. The point I'm making is age isn't the only factor, I don't think it's absurd to suggest that some 15 year-olds are more worldly than some 16 year-olds and even some 18 year-olds. So rather than a blanket ban on all relationships like this they should be viewed on a case by case basis and if it is clear that manipulation or intimidation took place then a prosecution would be logical but the only thing this blanket ban that is currently in place in some countries achieves is breaking up relationships and imprisoning innocent people. I think it's true that any relationship has the potential to be exploitative because no relationship is completely equal; how likely is it that two people will have the exact same physical strength, intelligence, social status, level of education, personal wealth and life experience etc. So rather than assuming it's always a predatory relationship because it has the potential to be we should instead, again, view things on a case by case basis and only prosecute when it is an exploitative relationship regardless of age.

If the genders were reversed, everyone would be talking about how unacceptable we would find this if the genders were reversed.

I've been around 15/16 year olds for the past year, they move around relationships extremely fast claiming each new girl/guy is the "one". They're really just pretty fucking horny, they're so hyped up with hormones they make out with the next person and think they must be meant to be. I don't think any of them know what love is. They're very likely to be easy manipulated by someone much older and intelligent, they'll make them think that their "love" is the real deal in order to get to them. That just my two cents on this though.

And again manipulation is possible due to factors other than age and just because there is a potential for exploitation doesn't mean it will always take place. In short there is a punishment in place for potential exploitation, it would be absurd to have a law which limited a persons relationships prospects based on income or on level of education but there is a chance for exploitation in such situations as well; so rather than punishing all relationships like this under the assumption that exploitation did take place we should instead judge them on a case by case basis and only prosecute when clear exploitation has taken place.

I think it's not the age that's important so much as having a person who is still at a point they are still dependant on their parents and other adults, and someone who is an independent adult.
