• Meet the NEETS: They're young and able, but completely unwilling to look for work
Then I feel total sympathy. But don't pretend that's what these "NEETs" are all about.
You're probably right on that one - I'm sure there are many NEET's who don't have anxiety or depression who simply just don't like working. All I wanted was for you to acknowledge that not every one of them is doing it by "choice".
A lot of neets are incapable of working because of a disability. Not necessarily the girls in the OP, no. But a LOT of them. To write off that as a rare occurrence is stupid.
I don't know man. The anecdotes I have read don't add up with that, plus it contradicts the mental health statistics. What I see are people who simply don't like the fact that they might have to take a shitty job so they would rather not even work.

A NEET is someone who is not in education, employment or training. Woops, that means my grandparents, anyone in voluntary work and anyone who is done with their education and training already but hasn't found anything yet. So we've got this amazing pool of knowledge, disabled people or people just unwilling to work under the NEET umbrella definition (perhaps someone can explain how far in depth this goes in better words) Feel free to discriminate because you're one accident or job loss away from joining them too, either way once you retire you're joining them as well.

I think you know who I was referring to. Read the article.

What I see are people who simply don't like the fact that they might have to take a shitty job so they would rather not even work.
Every NEET I know isn't about 'not wanting to work a shitty job'. Every NEEt I know (including myself) simply can't get a job. Every employer wants 3 years experience for a starting position which most people simply can't afford because the positions are unpaid internships. Even positions in warehouses and in bars around here want experience or your CV is trash. Warehouse operatives require various safety and forklift qualifications while barwork requires experience. Kitchen staff is a career in itself and requires you to be not just qualified to a standard, but also be able to work with the senior chef and produce food they deem is good. I have a top degree from a top 5 uni and I can't get shit. I have extra-curriculars out of the arse, a job history from the age of 15 and an excellent degree of commercial awareness and I can't even scoop up a service job, let alone a grad job in a solid company. Us millenials are fucked and it's not because we're lazy, 'waiting for our dream job' or don't have the right attitude. It's because we're expected to go and work for free, for years and accrue a shitton of debt just to get what would be classed as an entry level job 30 years ago. Fuck it all.

Hell, my dad is an executive at a major company and even he laughs at the state the job market is in today. He started at the bottom, on a salary enough to support a family of 3 (soon 4) and worked his way over 30 years to being near the top. I asked him today what it would take for me to do the same theoretically. He said that I would need a masters in the field (i.e. be 22-23 if straight schooling), do 3 years straight experience (26) for shit pay or nothing and would then be on his equivalent salary at 23 years ago. [editline]17th September 2016[/editline]
What uni and what degree?
Manchester uni (29th in world according to a recent study, top 5 in UK). History (kill me) but I got a 1st. Set me right up for a career in PR, big law or marketing. I've had interviews for them all but have been rejected for applicants who took a few years after uni and worked for free/minimum wage (in London, so paid for by parents).
Oh come on. I think you know who I was referring to. Read the article.
I understand that it's linked to a recession and that a portion of the NEET population are unwilling to do the things opposite of what a NEET would do, 41% probably refers to a portion that are merely listed as unemployed. The other 59%? Well now you've got yourself a witch hunt if you're only against some of them. Would also like to point out that whilst you can point to some of them who are unwilling to work, that there's no obligation for anyone to work a job. If you simply decide "I am never working a job" regardless of your health and circumstances that's a right that we give to our citizens. Doesn't make it the smart or dumb choice, but I am willing to protect that even if it means the persons you're refering into the article are the people we should be looking to correct as you'd say.
I left school at 15 and played runescape all day, good times.
I can't imagine wanting to live a NEET lifestyle. I've had periods of not doing anything useful for a few days and I just feel bad at the end of it. I do understand though that in many cases it's not a voluntary choice someone makes, and that sucks. Reading the stories here makes it seem that the situation can be pretty fucked up.

I then shower, take a walk, hit the gym, go the job centre (who say I'm so qualified and, apparently, personable they can't help me), apply to jobs and then go home, FP and drink myself to death watching shitty TV. edit: all I'm saying is that people saying NEETs are lazy fuckers annoys me. I'm NEET annd all of my grad friends are (subjective amirite) and all of us are busting our arses for jobs. I'm even thinking I'm going to start my own thing because there is so little out there I might as well see what happens.

Supermarkets?
Have you tried applying to menial labor jobs? What about fast food? I'm in the process of the management scheme application but I've been rejected from something similar (managing a local bar) because they also think I'd leave if I got a better offer.
Are we talking about NEETs who CHOOSE to be NEETs or NEETs who are unfortunately NEETs due to personal, environmental, economical, etc. problems. I was talking about the former. like Britbong or something.

The current society is what it is, it's very competitive and in many cases will probably result in you selling yourself as a person rather than just having the skills or experience. I think it's okay to pretend to be someone greater than yourself during interviews and so on, or even perhaps exaggerate a bit to stay ahead of everyone else.

How are you supposed to pick up women? No wonder FP is all virgins.
I have no idea why you would choose to be a NEET. How do you even have a social life? How are you supposed to pick up women? You come across as incredibly immature
I have no idea why you would choose to be a NEET. How do you even have a social life? How are you supposed to pick up women? No wonder FP is all virgins.
I know this is a fun burn to toss around on the internet because "LOL YOU'RE ON THE INTERNET GOTTA BE A VIRGIN" but I just frankly don't understand it. It's far too assumptive and pretty meaningless ultimately as there's a lot more ways to get laid than "I have money, sleep with me" as you would seem to be implying. Some people are just fun people and get laid for their personality and don't compensate for that with cash. I work a full time job, and I still do film work on the side to make ends meet. I don't spend much, I live in a cheap place in this crazy expensive place that I can't move away from due to the fact I can't save money because everything is expensive. I'm getting married shortly. Money doesn't help unless it's a lot of money. Having money and not having money is just another one of the crisis i'm faced with on a daily basis no matter how hard I work, or how hard I work to make my money work for me.
I have no idea why you would choose to be a NEET. How do you even have a social life? How are you supposed to pick up women? No wonder FP is all virgins.
I think people that decide to live such a lifestyle probably already are very depressed or view their future as very bleak. I don't think anyone can be very happy doing nothing productive all day, and it probably contributes even more to the depression.
Welcome to all of recorded history. You're not going to be happy all the time or even most of the time. Life sucks.
Thats kinda the whole reason a lot of NEETs exist, the outlook is grim to them, telling them that life is garbage but they should just get out of their room and face life, will only dig them deeper into a reluctance to do anything.
I know this is a fun burn to toss around on the internet because "LOL YOU'RE ON THE INTERNET GOTTA BE A VIRGIN" but I just frankly don't understand it.
Know what's fun? Not only am I reeling from not having a job and dealing with the guilt and baggage that brings, not only am I reeling from losing one of the closest relationships I've ever had with a person, but now I'm also reeling because of the recent realization that I can't fucking afford to be in one with someone, when that's all I want right now after this breakup, because I can't find and maintain a stupid fucking job.
I completely reject the notion of life being garbage, it's not supposed to be garbage, it's supposed to be completely fine, if it's not fine, something is extremely wrong.
I have no idea why you would choose to be a NEET. How do you even have a social life? How are you supposed to pick up women? No wonder FP is all virgins.
Yes, because everyone who is a NEET is a NEEt by choice. Or maybe its because unemployment is a huge problem in my country and the government creates casual positions to hire people onto their payrolls and never give them any hours to make the stats look better.
Idk if you're mad at me or pantz tbh
The name fits tho. I think at that point you need to just focus on self improvement otherwise you'll get bitter.
Idk if you're mad at me or pantz tbh
Kind of Pantz if I was mad at anyone, but it was more just adding on unnecessarily I guess, idk. If anything, I agree with what you've been posting here. Gonna stop since this isn't the Depression thread, don't want to derail the conversation more than I may or may not have.

And the Facepunch virgin thing was a joke Jesus. I'm not some ladies man.
