they already made a billion dollars in 3 days with a budget of 265 million. if they need any more money in the form of microtransactions they are insane
This would work if R* wasn't owned by a public company who has a legal obligation to try and make as much money for its share holders as possible.
I won't buy the game if so (been waiting for it come out on PC). People have to stick to their morals. It ain't free to play therefor this is bullshit and deceptive when added post release. They are already made a billion fucking dollars.
I hope this does not happen rockstar already earned their money back, milking further is just being greedy imo. And the game isn't even that good.
companies try and make more money more at 11
Everyone should just wait till online comes out. If it doesn't affect the gameplay and isn't pay to win, you shouldn't have much of a problem with it. Companies are trying to find ways to make more money that's business hopefully rockstar can do it right. People on facepunch are quick to judge everything on stuff they know very little about, for all we know there might not even be microtransactions. Wait till it comes out, then criticize.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-25-grand-theft-auto-online-micro-transaction-pack-prices-revealed sigh
"This means that, even with extra money from cash packs, a low-level character will have few options to initially spend it on. Players start with the option to buy just pistols and a single set of tyres." If this is all true, it's definitely not as bad as everyone is making it out to be.
I kinda thought that Shark ad would be relevant. Anyway, expanding on what Mr. Flexi said, buying stuff is tied to non-purchasable experience level. So if you buy a card at level fifty, yeah, you get a shortcut to a bunch of kickass guns and cars, but by level fifty you'll likely already have those guns and cars so the money would be mostly used for cosmetics. At level seven, though, you'd maybe get a shotgun and a new baseball hat, then have millions left over for later. It's hardly the worst thing to ever happen and I really don't think it's negative in anyway, but nerds love to complain
Now, I don't personally have GTA 5 yet, but exactly how are microtransactions going to fit into the multiplayer component of GTA 5? Is it gonna be like an MMO where you can't host your own server, and have to play on official servers playing official gamemodes or what?
buying better cars upgrades and stuff while not pay2win, it would give people an advantage for a little bit
It could be worse. If the level system is saving us from having low levels running riot with level 100 stuff then it shouldnt be too much of an issue. Really, it depends on how easy it is to earn money through playing the game. It shouldnt be mind numbingly difficult, hopefully. I'll roll with it, but i doubt i'd use it.
Reminder: The same folder included references to the 64 player limit which Rockstar said is not going to happen. It happens a lot that some cut stuff is added to the game disc, i mean GTA Online is still 'locked'.

How is adding micro transactions deceptive? Was it ever said online play wouldn't have them? Online play isn't even available yet so you can't say (yet) they even added microtransactions after release. They have revenue of a billion- that's not the same as making a billion. That aside their goal is to make as much as possible. No company is going to have a model where they willingly stop making a profit after x amount of profit has been had. This doesn't look to bad IMO, though ATM this is speculation and not confirmed. If released as the article says it doesn't look like pay to win, more like pay to skip grind. If released as the article says- what's the downside here?
I don't exactly care. If people feel like spending money to get some fancy virtual apartment then let them. I won't.
Yeah you're right. My gut feeling is that they won't do it. I've got a sixth sense for this. They just won't do it. I'll say it again. They just won't do it, I know it, I can feel it.
the avatar can't be any more fitting
Confirmed by rockstar http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/51422/some-more-details-on-grand-theft-auto-online.html
Reputation and Cash Flow: Reputation is earned from all your online exploits in everything you do in GTA Online – and will help you rank up, providing access to new features, weapons and criminal contacts. Spend cash you’ve gained on cars, clothes, guns, properties and much more. You can either quickly accumulate cash through profitable activities like knocking over armored cars, winning street races, doing stick-ups or a host of other cash-making endeavors – or if you’re the completely instant gratification type, you can choose to buy denominations of GTA$. You will have the option to purchase GTA$ through the in-game Store. The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash. There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game. You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker. The economy is balanced differently from the single player economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other. Most players will earn cash much faster Online than in Story Mode.
It sounds like they have the right approach to it, doesn't seem like it will effect gameplay much.
I'd only be able to play a few hours a week at most, so I'm pretty glad that if I wanted I can skip the whole potentially waiting weeks thing to have enough ingame dosh to do anything.
If I can easily get the money ingame without micro-transactions I'm alright with it.
Can someone sum GTAO up for me? So far it sounds like APB
