Yeah looks like we're getting US involvement if not now then very, very soon, Obama will probably make a speech similar to Sarkozy's "we are attacking right now as I speak"
The US has stationed five(?) warships and submarines around the coast of Libya, in the Mediterranean. In addition, the British Navy has set up a naval blockade with their warships and frigates in the Mediterranean. The US navy is reported to have stationed an additional aircraft carrier with the rest of their fleet.

Thank god Bush isn't the president, otherwise this would turn into World War III.
BBC are reporting that explosions have been heard to the east of the capital, and then it reported the news of the tomahawk missile. Coincidence?

BBC showing Cameron talking, apparently British forces are in action now.

Coincidence?
Well from what I understand the Tomahawks are hitting air defenses so maybe. We'll probably clear the area of AA then send in a swarm of fighters.
Thank god Bush isn't the president, otherwise this would turn into World War III.
a single man doesn't have the power to start WWIII
BREAKING NEWS: US Warships have launched Cruise Missiles against Libya. Civilian targets have been hit by "crusaders, warplanes", according to the Libyan Government. [editline]19th March 2011[/editline] Civilian targets are in Tripoli, it has been reported.
According to CNN: U.S. military launches missiles against Gadhafi's forces in Libya, defense official says.
Sky are reporting that Libyan state TV are reporting that "civilian" targets are being hit by planes of the "crusader enemy".
Al Jazeera also confirming Tomahawk launches and British involvement.
I hope that is just propaganda.
Of course it is, why on earth would they deliberately target civilians?
Of course it is, why on earth would they deliberately target civilians?
I was thinking more about the possibility of accidental civilian hits, it would be a terrible thing. Especially this early on.
Of course it is, why on earth would they deliberately target civilians?
I've heard worse accusations in other threads.
I hope that is just propaganda.
The Libyan Government is just trying to make the US look terrible, but yes it's reported that this has happened. "This is a military operation that is underway. Key targets have been or are being destroyed by missiles, including coastal sites in Libya. The US has taken control of the operations, until it's transferred to coalition forces. It's called Operation ODDESSY DAWN. In terms of Tactical execution, it's done by a joint tactical force. While the US is launching these strikes on integrated launch system, there will be a second wave. It's unclear when this will happen. They will target Gaddafi's tanks and ground forces. We're in the first phase at the moment where the defense systems are being targeted. This is all under the force of Resolution 1973 of the UN, so it IS a coalition effort. This is done by Canada, UK, France, Italy, The US, and more states to be announced.
Al Jazeera are reporting some information from a pentagon press briefing or something. Apparently this is a multi phase operation. Also apparently the US have taken over leading the entire thing from the French while they attack AA stuff, and it will be transitioned to a collation leadership "soon".
Reuters quotes a senior US military official saying US, British, French, Italian and Canadian forces are to launch a strike along the Libyan coast.
"The US is now in the lead and will stay this way in the coming days, until it is transferred to Coalition forces. They took control from the French."
God damn it, you just wrote what I was talking about a few seconds earlier.
Yeah, sorry I typed what was being said live by Al Jazeera so it's not my words.
I was thinking more about the possibility of accidental civilian hits, it would be a terrible thing. Especially this early on.
I'd certainly hope they'd be being careful, especially if Gaddafi's taken to setting up AA on civilian buildings themselves.
I've heard worse accusations in other threads.
What, the lunatic stuff about America becoming a genocidal global fascist police state and such? That's just Internet background noise, to be honest. EDIT: Heh, rated dumb by one of the aforementioned lunatics.
ODDESSY DAWN?, Really?, I would have found something more bad ass to call it. [editline]19th March 2011[/editline] like off the top of my head. Operation DAMOCLES. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damocles
Also it seems Oddessy Dawn seems to be the entire US involvement from the start, including evacuations etc. UK involvement is going under the name "Operation Ellamy" according to Wikipedia. Sky news are talking about use of possible "electronic means" to take out Libyan AA / communication systems. They are suggesting jamming radios and satellites.
Sky news are talking about use of possible "electronic means" to take out Libyan AA / communication systems. They are suggesting jamming radios and satellites.
Yes, but I believe the US fleet in Libya is the only one currently with the capable means of doing so.
Apparently "US Africa command" is in control at the moment. Apparently its based in Germany.
