• Neighbors Infurated After Man Parks a Cessna In His Driveway

The person who wrote "Love thy neighbor" obviously didn't have shitty ass neighbors.
uh where do you guys live? yeah the neighbors seem petty as fuck, but zoning laws like these are prevalent in most suburban communities. just like in a lot places you can't park your boat or rv in your front lawn, obviously a plane wouldn't be exempted. this stuff's legally enforceable, i don't see why any of you are surprised. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline]
His property, his decision. They could cry as much as they want to, doesn't make it less of his right to have the plane there.
despite what you and the general public might think, just because you own the land it doesn't mean you can use it however you wish.
Care to cite law that this is illegal?
It's conceivably against code without some arbitrarily priced permit, basically legalized extortion (they will confiscate the offending item if you don't pay them). My town does this with project cars parked in the street in front of your house on suburban roads, which is fair enough I guess since the city can at least say they own the road. But they will take stuff from your driveway, yard, etc. if they find it to be in violation of a code. It doesn't make it any less stupid. There's no real reason for it other than collecting permit money, and if anything this is just another reason in a growing list to make arbitrary city ordinances like that illegal at a federal level. They should not be able to confiscate any legally owned property stored on your land, end of story. I doubt they'd try it with a plane, in any case. I wouldn't like to see the paperwork for seizing a legal private aircraft.
I once had some neighbors that asked us to cut down a tree in our backyard, because it spread out above their yard and they wanted to put in a pool. Fair enough, I guess. The had just moved in to a crummy run down house, we were hoping some work would finally be done on it, if they're putting in a pool. So we cut down the tree, and summer rolls around. I go outside, and see the pool they had us cut down a tree for. An inflatable pool. And years later, still no real progress on the house.
Care to cite law that this is illegal?
http://ecode360.com/15520578 given that parking regulation laws for the town aren't on the internet, i'd say that's as far as i can reasonably go. do you think that the township's just making this law up because neighbors complained? disputes over parked objects in driveways aren't unique to this town, you know. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline] i'm not defending the laws, i'm just saying they exist and getting pissy over them and acting like they don't exist and/or stomp all over your rights isn't going to help anyone

How can a law tell you what you can put in your yard when it comes to vehicles? It wasn't hurting anything. Not like he had a million rusty cars in his backyard or something.

I don't know about you guys, but someone with a plane in their driveway would be cool as fuck to look at. It's a talking point about your neighborhood.
Thank God we don't have HOAs in Canada. Even still I'm not sure if this would be legal in Toronto, but he could probably take the wings off and put it in his backyard here.

He should sue the city to make them force people to get permits to keep boats, RVs, etc on their property as well. Uglier, and more dangerous. At least with this plane, you can see around it and know that there won't be any kids darting from behind this battleship sized obstruction into the street.
Boy am I sure fucking glad I live in a neighborhood where everyone is nice and friendly and doesn't pull shit like this. The nosiest thing that's ever happened from one of our neighbors is one down the street came over once to let us know he saw someone snooping about in our yard the previous night with a flashlight, which I then explained was me and someone from craigslist who was buying a palm tree from us that was in the way of a project. Nice dude.

My neighborhood is dominated by the "historical society" because we live in a historic neighborhood. We literally have to go through the state to paint our house a color other than white and grey. We had some contractors over to fix the plumbing and electrical and left some old pipes they removed on our lawn. So old lady from the "historical society" called the cops and had us fined for having "refuse in the yard" even though it was obvious that we were having work done on our house.
Wouldn't it be fucking awesome to break the law just once and use that neighborhood street as a fucking runway And whiz by people watering their lawns and washing cars as you take off
If he manages to get the proper zoning, however, everyone else should shut the fuck up.
aren't neighborhoods pre-zoned? i don't think that can be changed. [editline]14th August 2015[/editline]
Zoning laws are nice because it stops things like two houses in my area being bought demolished then turned into apartments.
yeah people tend to forget the benefits to zoning laws and think that the big-bad government just enacted them arbitrarily

Like where I live, I'm not allowed to have a bee hive to keep bees in a residential zone, but I am allowed to have up to five chickens, but I'm not allowed to have ducks.

"Yes, I think that-*" Door bursts open. "HOWARD!! HOWAAAARD! YOU TELL THEM I SAID NO DUCKS." "Yes dea-*" "NO DUCKS HOWARD. I'M SERIOUS." (whispering) "Holy shit, Howard... what the hell does your wife have against ducks?" (whispering) "I don't know or care, let's just ban ducks so she'll shut the hell up."
If I was going to want this plane off my neighbors driveway, it would be because I'm worried about the local youths damaging it. It would suck to have something making your hood look so cool damaged. Beautiful plane.
For America being all about freedom, it seems to me there's ridiculous amount of limitation of what you can have on your own bloody lawn.
One of my friends had neighbors like that who would not stop harassing him over the smallest shit, and when he was put in a wheelchair it got worse. One time (and this is what started basically a fucking war) they called the cops on him because his handicap-accessible van had been backed into while he was sleeping and the bumper was laying there in the driveway. Apparently according to somebody else, the guy went over with a ruler and measured how far it was "on the sidewalk" and phoned it in but I didn't see it myself. Cops did absolutely nothing about it, they showed up when I was taking pictures for the insurance company and the busybody asshole husband marched over to make sure we were arrested. They were really pissed off about it and kept calling the cops for every little thing and yeah... my friend's other friends escalated things I guess. So sometimes the cops would show up at this wheelchair-bound guy's house and would ask shit like, "sir do you know anything about a fire extinguisher being... activated... and thrown through your neighbor's window?" in a completely monotone voice. They still live there, and like four years later (my friend had moved away years prior, couldn't afford to keep the house) I was visiting somebody else and I noticed that the guy was scrubbing off what looked to be high-velocity dog shit shit and eggs encrusted on the siding. I burst out laughing because apparently he managed to piss off somebody else which was not surprising at all. Of course I immediately noticed that his car was ever-so-slightly parked too far back and was over the sidewalk so I anonymously reported him for that. Fuck that guy.
Bravo. Really, you win.
Okay I can understand bitching about loud stereos, bright lights, overgrowth and things like that... but a vehicle parked on private property? Come on.
For America being all about freedom, it seems to me there's ridiculous amount of limitation of what you can have on your own bloody lawn.
There tends to be a very heavy desire for conformity within communities, especially suburbs like this.
I know Oceanside, it's filled with middle class white people that live by the water. Wouldn't expect them to do anything else besides complain honestly.

If we did, the cops would be right there. Also, we definitely couldn't go on his lawn. My brother got the shit beat out of him for trick-or-treating at his property, I got approached by him with a fucking shotgun when I was like 6 for it. I think he eventually ended up going to prison because he did something to his kids or something
